The annual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner on Tuesday, March 17th. This holiday, which is the most well-known holiday in Ireland, celebrates the country’s patron saint and is now commemorated in many communities throughout the world.

Looking to celebrate St. Patty’s Day with an Irish meal at home? Crack open a Guinness and get to preparing these popular Irish dishes.

Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s Pie is a classic dish in Irish cuisine, and perhaps the most popular in the entire country. A meat pie with a mashed potato topping, this dish is usually made with ground beef or lamb along with a variety of vegetables.

Irish Stew

Irish Stew is another classic from the Emerald Isle, incorporating lamb, potatoes, and carrots as the base ingredients of a rich stew. Red wine is sometimes added to the broth, with Guinness beer also serving as a possible addition, depending on the region and the chef.

Boiled Bacon and Cabbage

“Bacon” in Ireland refers to a cured and smoked pork loin, which is boiled and then served with cabbage in this classic dish. While it might not be the most appetizing-looking option, it is deceptively tasty.
