You aren’t imagining it: pandemic weight gain is definitely a thing. In a poll of more than 1,000 WebMD readers, nearly half of the women and almost one-quarter of the men said they’d gained weight “due to COVID restrictions”. And then there was that viral Instagram post where Will Smith vowed to get fit after “countless days grazing thru the pantry.”

But as we all know (Will Smith included), “getting fit” is easier said than done. Luckily for us, there are companies out there willing to take us under their wing. This week we want to recommend you Daily Harvest’s meal kits. “We take care of food, so food can take care of you,” reads the company’s website—which is exactly the kind of ownership we’re looking for…

The company offers over 80 uniquely nourishing, chef-crafted options for any time of day with plans based on the number of items you want (9, 14, or 24) and how often you want them delivered (weekly or monthly). You can also modify your items, delivery schedule, and plan preference whenever you wish. All Daily Harvest foods are crafted by in-house chefs and nutritionists, with 95% of the ingredients organic—another huge bonus.

“What I like to say is we offer convenience without compromise,” explained Daily Harvest’s founder and CEO, Rachel Drori, in an interview with The Flair Index. “Usually the two don’t work together very well. The ultimate goal is to have people get deliveries of Daily Harvest where they fill their freezer and think about their freezer as a place to go for their daily nutrition.”

These days the company even offers a healthy version of ice cream (their new pistachio + toasty, buttery hazelnut scoops look simply heavenly). Check them out here and follow them on Instagram for more.

There are so many options for the type of eggs to buy, that it can get extremely overwhelming knowing which egg is right for you. There’s cage-free, free-range, organic, pasture-raised – what’s the best option? If the egg aisle is giving you a headache with all the terminology, this is the guide for you.

Cage-Free

What this term means is that the chickens are not in cages, which is the worst scenario for a chicken. However, this doesn’t mean they’re running around happily. They are still most likely in a dark and crowded barn or building where they are not exposed to light or the great outdoors, but since they aren’t in cages, companies are free to use this term for marketing.

Free Range

Again, this term is more of a marketing scheme than it leads to believe. While these kinds of eggs come from chickens who have not been in cages, they aren’t roaming free on a pasture all day long. Rather, they are allowed to be outside for a certain amount of time in their life, but it’s usually minimal.

Organic

This relates to the type of feed the chickens are given, and with organic eggs comes organic feed. This isn’t telling about the conditions of the chickens, but you do know that what they are eating is organic and free of antibiotics, which means you aren’t ingesting anything unhealthy in that way.

Pasture Raised

This label is the truest, and these eggs come from chickens who only graze on pastures their entire life.
