]]>A wooden spoon is great for when you want to protect your pot or pan. It’s soft and gentle and won’t leave marks on your favorite non-stick pan, which is why you can safely use it to stir, flip, or take out your food.
If you care about the environment, you probably want to use tools made of natural materials, and wooden spoons check all the boxes. They are made without toxic chemicals and can decompose naturally once their life cycle is over. What’s even better, one wooden spoon will last you a long time so you won’t even have to replace them that often.
Metal utensils can heat up and burn your hands and when you put a cold metal spoon in the dish, it can change its temperature. None of this happens with wooden spoons. You can leave the spoon in the pot or on the side of it and use it however you want because it won’t heat up.

]]>Wooden utensils may look resilient, but putting them in a dishwasher or soaking them in water for a long time is the fastest way to ruin them. If you have a favorite cutting board and you want it to last many years, you need a more gentle approach.
Using a regular kitchen sponge, warm water, and dish soap is enough for daily washing. It will remove the food residue, smells, and discoloration. You can deep clean the board occasionally and oil it to keep it fresh.
If you’ve cut something watery on it, make sure to wash the cutting board as soon as possible. Washing and drying it before it soaks up a lot of moisture is crucial and it will only take a few minutes of your time. Lean it against something to dry instead of placing it flat.

]]>How is this possible? The company’s founder, chemical engineer Scott Munguía, found that avocado pits have properties that allow them to be used for making biodegradable and sustainable forks, knives, spoons, and straws that can also be affordable for the customer. The company currently makes products with 60% avocado biopolymer and 40% synthetically made organic compounds.
Biofase’s products are biodegradable and don’t require any special recycling. As it says on the Biofase USA Facebook page: “Did you know that plastic straws can take up to 200 years to decompose? And most ‘alternative’ straws need special facilities to be compostable. Our straws and cutlery degrade naturally in just 240 days and you can even compost them at home! Make the change!”
Right now, the company turns around 130 tons of avocado pits into utensils that they distribute across Mexico, Europe, Australia. Their products are mostly used in restaurants for now but they are also available on Amazon.
