You can make pretty much any veggie extra delicious by perfectly pairing it with other foods, and that also happens to be the case with asparagus. Eating it on its own can be amazing, but your taste buds will start tingling even more if you pair it with one of these foods.

Asparagus & Cheese

One of the most popular asparagus pairings that are never going out of style, asparagus and cheese perfectly complement each other. It’s also one of the easiest combos to pull off since you just have to sprinkle some mozzarella or parmesan over your asparagus.

Asparagus & Bacon

If you have a special place in your heart for bacon, this pairing will knock you off your feet. Asparagus and bacon taste their best when paired together, but you can also swap bacon for prosciutto to make your dish even richer.

Asparagus & Salmon

Eating bacon with asparagus may not be an option if you’ve embraced a pescatarian diet. Luckily, there’s an equal delicious replacement that comes really close to this dish—asparagus paired with smoked salmon.

Asparagus & Eggs

We made sure to leave the best for last because it truly doesn’t get much better than eggs paired with asparagus. This combo will put a spin on your next brunch and make you forget all about avocado toast.

Spring is the best time of the year to add some asparagus to your daily menu because it’s one of the most delicious and versatile veggies on the market. Before deciding how you’re going to prepare it, you’ll have to properly trim its edges. But which method should you use to get it done?

Snapping the Edges

The first step of cooking asparagus is getting rid of its tough, woody lower ends. Since it’s pretty easy to break them with hand, you can bend each stalk, snap the edges, and get fresh asparagus for later use.

This method is pretty popular because there’s something incredibly satisfying about snapping asparagus, but it can also lead to unnecessary waste. Unless you break each stalk at the exact spot where it starts turning to white, you’re doing it wrong, plus this method can be pretty time-consuming.

Cutting the Edges

If you’re short on time and don’t want any of your asparagus to go to waste, using a chef’s knife is a much better idea. It’s pretty much impossible to make mistakes with this method—just line up your asparagus on the cutting board, trim the ends with a knife and you’re good to go!

One of the most delicious vegetables out there—a gateway vegetable, you could call it, for those who don’t naturally love veggies—is asparagus. Cooked right, it can be one of the tastiest sides you could ever eat. This recipe is pretty much guaranteed to make you, and picky kids who don’t usually eat their vegetables, clean your plate. Plus it’s healthy, low-carb, and keto-friendly.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus
  • Olive oil
  • Minced garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Snap the woody ends off of your asparagus stalks. Throw out the ends and wash the asparagus that remains.

Mix olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Toss the asparagus in the flavored oil mixture. Spread it out on a lightly greased baking sheet and cook for ten to 15 minutes until the asparagus is bright green.

Remove from the oven and cover in a layer of mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and broil for an additional five minutes until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbly. Remove from the oven. Season with more salt and pepper to taste. Let it cool down just a bit, serve, and enjoy!

Believe it or not, the month of May is here and is set to provide us with an ample variety of food holidays to celebrate. If you’re looking to spice up this calendar month and find an opportunity to partake in some food celebrations, you’ll love these three events!

International No Diet Day: May 6th

Diets can be a great ally in our fight to lose weight and become healthier, but when you’re in the middle of one, sometimes it’s best to take a short break. International Diet Day is on the sixth of the month and a fantastic excuse for a “cheat day”.

International Hummus Day: May 13th

This chickpea-based spread and dip, which has surged in popularity over the last couple of decades, will have its day in the spotlight on May 13th. Head to your favorite Middle Eastern restaurant and order a batch, or try making some yourself!

Asparagus Day: May 24th

One of our favorite vegetables to experiment with in the kitchen is asparagus, and Asparagus Day on May 24th is a great chance for you to make a meal including this veggie. We personally like grilled asparagus, but you could also include it in a risotto or oven-roasted!

Asparagus is always a great choice if you are looking to add a little bit of green to your dinner. It’s a versatile vegetable that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways and it has tons of health benefits as well.

Our favorite way to enjoy asparagus is by roasting it in the oven. Here’s our favorite recipe to make your own delicious oven-roasted asparagus side dish!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of asparagus
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Next, start off by trimming the asparagus. This will remove unwanted and inedible pieces from the vegetable before you roast it.
  3. After you’ve done this, place the asparagus in a bowl and toss it to coat it with olive oil. Be sure all of the spears are evenly coated.
  4. After this, you’ll want to combine kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Take each individual asparagus spear and rub a generous dose of the mixture onto them. You can always make more if the quantities given don’t give you enough to coat all of them.
  5. Place the asparagus on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
  6. Finally, put the asparagus in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until tender.

  1. Start by chopping up the asparagus into bite-size pieces. Don’t forget to trim the ends, which are very hard and fibrous.
  2. Then, either finely chop or grate a 1 inch piece of fresh ginger. A good trick to getting the skin off is to use a spoon to simply brush it right off!
  3. Heat up some olive oil or ghee in a pan over medium-high heat and add in 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds.
  4. Once the seeds start to pop, add in the ginger just for a few seconds to start to fry, and then add in the chopped asparagus.
  5. Add salt and stir while it cooks for the next 5-10 minutes.
  6. Finally, squeeze in 2 tablespoons of any sort of citrus juice, either lime, lemon, or orange and allow it to deglaze the pan.
  7. Once the liquid starts to evaporate, turn off the heat, allow to cook for a couple minutes longer, and serve!
