There’s no better time than the summer to kick back with a cooling drink. Water is generally the obvious choice when it comes to which drink to go for, mainly because of how healthy it is. But what about when you’re sick of its blandness? Here are three great alternatives that’ll keep you refreshed on a cool summer’s day—with a healthy twist as well.

Iced Tea

Iced tea is one of the most popular drinks out there when it comes to keep yourself refreshed. However, people oftentimes view it as a guilty pleasure of sorts, due to its high sugar level. The good news is that you can easily make it yourself, and completely without sugar.

Lemonade

The same thing can be said about lemonade. People often enjoy this delicious lemon-based drink with sugar because it’s just so darn good. But you can easily prepare a healthier version of it, and feel equally as refreshed in the process.

Orange Juice

Finally, we have a little delicious drink known as orange juice. While there are countless popular versions that you can buy in the store such as Tropicana, a freshly squeezed version will not only keep your refreshed during the summer, but also minimize those added sugars.

Have you ever had an Arnold Palmer before? This classic American drink, a mix of iced tea and lemonade, has gained popularity over the past few decades and steadily earned its place as one of the most popular summertime drinks in the country. So, just how did this drink get its name, and where does it come from?

A Legendary Golfer

Arnold Palmer was a legendary American golfer from Latrobe, Pennsylvania who won seven Major Championships in the 1950s and 1960s, becoming one of the best golfers of his time.

After golfing, Palmer was known to head to the country club at the course he was playing and order a drink that consisted of three parts unsweetened ice tea and one part lemonade in order to cool down.

Word Of Mouth

Palmer often ordered his special drink at country clubs where he was known by simply ordering a “Mr. Palmer.” The waitstaff at places like Augusta National and his hometown club of Latrobe Country Club always knew what he was talking about.

However, according to Palmer himself, in the late 1960s in Palm Springs, California, a woman overheard him ordering his signature drink at a country club and said that she would like one of those “Mr. Palmers” too. From there, the drink spread by word of mouth all over the country until it became a household name. Cheers to Arnold Palmer and his special, delicious drink!

Have you ever tried an Arnold Palmer before? This drink, brought to the public conscience thanks to legendary golfer Arnold Palmer’s preference to sip this beverage after his matches, is a popular drink that is usually purchased in bottled or canned form. Arnold Palmers taste even better, though, when made at home using all-natural ingredients. Let’s learn how to make them!

Ingredients

For tea:

  • 64 fluid ounces water
  • 6 family-sized black tea bags (or 20 individual bags)
  • 1.5 cups white sugar

For lemonade:

  • 40 fluid ounces water
  • 8 fluid ounces fresh-squeezed lemon juice (about 8 lemons)
  • 1 cup white sugar

Other ingredients:

  • Ice (for serving)
  • Lemon slices (for serving)

Instructions

Start off by preparing the tea that you’ll use in the drink. Begin by bringing 64 fluid ounces of water to a boil and turn off the heat. Once the water is slightly cooled from the boiling point, place the tea bags into the water and allow to steep for 5-7 minutes.

After this, introduce the 1.5 cups of white sugar while the water is still hot and stir until dissolved. Set aside.

As the tea begins to cool, juice eight lemons (or however many you need to get 8 fluid ounces of lemon juice). Add in a pitcher to 40 fluid ounces of water, and add sugar.

Next, pour the still-warm hot tea into the pitcher along with the lemonade, add the rest of the sugar, and stir until the other cup of sugar is completely dissolved.

Cover and allow to chill in the refrigerator until cool. Serve in a glass with ice and lemon slices for a little bit of decoration. Cheers!

It’s always fun to have a cocktail by the pool, but if you have people that don’t drink or underaged folks around, you want to be able to serve them something just as special and delicious! Try making these fun non-alcoholic beverages and make sure everyone is satisfied.

Coconut Lime Iced Tea

For a tropical getaway right in your glass, make this fun iced tea! Instead of using regular water, boil coconut water to infuse that sweet coconut flavor to your tea. Put black tea and lime slices in a pitcher, fill with the coconut water and let it steep for 15 minutes. Put it in the fridge for 3-4 hours and you’ll feel like you’re on a tropical island.

Healthier Orange Soda

For this healthy twist, squeeze fresh orange juice into a pitcher. Then, add pomegranate juice and top it off with sparkling water. This drink is sweet, tart, and bubbly!

Mint Iced Tea

This recipe could not be more simple or refreshing. Just add mint leaves, sugar, and a lemon peel to a pitcher. Add boiling water and steep for 10 minutes. Then pour over cold water, pop it in the fridge for a few hours, and you’re ready to enjoy!
