Hummus is one of the best foods for picnics, snacks, starters, and side dishes. Not only is it light and tastes great, but it is also packed full of important nutrients such as protein. But what foods are best to eat with hummus? Here are some of the sides that help bring out the best of any hummus.

Pepper Crackers

These thin crackers seasoned with sea salt and large peppercorns are a great accompaniment to all kinds of hummus. In addition to original chickpea hummus, they go particularly well with red pepper hummus and caramelized onion hummus.

Carrots and Cucumber

Perhaps the healthiest option is to dunk sticks of carrot and cucumber into the hummus jar. These are cheap, quick, and easy to prepare. They also give a satisfying crunch to each mouthful.

Focaccia

Focaccia is one of the tastiest accompaniments to hummus. It really helps to bring out the flavor of the hummus alongside its own party of flavor. Rosemary and caramelized onion focaccia are particularly good.

Fresh Bread

One of the simplest but most rewarding accompaniments to hummus is freshly baked bread. Preferably still warm and with a hard crunch to the crust, each mouthful leaves you wanted more.

The main attraction of American BBQs are always the meats, but did you know that there are also a ton of traditional side dishes which are served alongside them? Here are some of the favorites.

Hush Puppies

Cornmeal is combined with flour, eggs, salt, milk, water and seasonings and fried into delicious little balls in this classic Southern barbecue side dish. These are popular when flavored with onion and garlic, and many people enjoy dipping them into barbecue sauce.

Collared Greens

Collared greens are another common barbecue side dish that involves a sort of vegetable side dish made with a common American kale-like green. It’s stewed in chicken broth and also contains bacon and onions. Yum.

Cornbread

Corn reigns supreme once again as cornbread figures into the mix as a popular BBQ side dish. A sort of corn-meal-based bread that is slightly sweet and cut into small squares to serve, you’ll find this on American BBQ dishes all around the country topped with a dab of butter.

Have you ever been lucky enough to attend an American-style barbecue? Meats are generally the star of these grilled meat occasions, but there are also a number of side dishes that are commonly seen as accompaniments to pork, beef, and chicken. If you want to make your own American BBQ at home, don’t forget to make these sides!

Macaroni and Cheese

Mac and cheese is a classic side that you will find alongside barbecue all around the country. Made by combining noodles, butter, and cheese, this is a choice that is popular with everyone at the table.

Cornbread

Serving a barbecue without cornbread sure would be strange. Made with cornmeal and resulting in a sweeter end product than typical bread or bread rolls, cornbread is especially common to find at barbecues in the American South.

Collard Greens

Another favorite from the American south is collard greens, a great option for putting a little bit of green on the table alongside the meats and carbohydrates. Made by boiling a green with spices and bacon in chicken broth, this dish isn’t hard to make and it’s packed with tons of flavor.
