Marinating tofu is not always as easy as it sounds. Tofu can be a tricky food to prepare, but it is delicious if it’s done right. The question is, how do you make it to perfection? Here are some top tips if you want to cook crispy marinated tofu like a pro.

Chop Your Tofu

First, you need to prepare the size of your tofu. You can cook with large chunks of tofu, but these don’t usually cook very well. For best results, chop your tofu into one-inch cubes.

Give it a Squeeze

Lay the cubes out on a kitchen towel and gently squeeze them to get rid of any excess water. The dryer the tofu, the better it will cook.

Spice Mix

In a large bowl, mix cornflour, Chinese five-spice, salt, and pepper. Add the tofu cubes to the mix and toss them around until each cube is covered in the mixture.

Fry

Fry the tofu cubes in olive oil on medium to high heat for 5-6 minutes. Turn frequently until they’re crispy all over.

Marinade Mix

When the tofu is brown and crispy, lower the heat a little and apply a drizzle of honey, 1/4 cup of water, and Szechuan paste. Let it simmer for one minute until the marinade has combined thoroughly, and you’re done!
