Christmas is right around the corner and you are probably thinking about the ways to decorate your Christmas tree. Well, why not take a page from cookbook author and TV personality Martha Stewart’s book and decorate it with gingerbread cookies? Stewart recently shared various tips and tricks on how to make the best cookies that can be used as either Christmas tree ornaments or gifts.

According to Stewart, the first thing you have to do when making gingerbread cookies is to skip adding the eggs to the dough. This will result in firmer and harder cookies, making them last longer and being more suitable for decorations. However, don’t forget to punch a hole in the cookies with a skewer as soon as they come out of the oven because it will be much harder to do it afterward.

For the frosting, you will need to experiment a bit in order to achieve a consistency that is suitable for spreading but isn’t too liquid. Stewart also recommends adding some lemon juice to the frosting in order to enhance the flavor.

After frosted, the cookies can be further decorated with piping frosting and dragées like Stewart did or a decoration of your choice. Check out the video in full below.
