One way to make life a little less overwhelming is to ensure our pantry and fridge are stocked with nutritious and versatile foods. By having a well-stocked kitchen, you can whip up healthy and delicious meals in no time.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are the foundation of a nourishing diet. Stock up on staples like brown rice, quinoa, oats, and whole wheat pasta. These provide essential nutrients, fiber, and sustained energy to keep your family fueled throughout the day.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Always keep a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in your fridge. These nutrient-packed goodies can be snacked on, added to smoothies, or incorporated into meals. Consider choosing seasonal produce to maximize flavor and minimize costs.

Lean Proteins

Protein is essential for growing bodies and busy parents. Stock up on lean protein sources like chicken breast, turkey, beans, lentils, tofu, and eggs. They are versatile ingredients that can be used in a variety of dishes.

Dairy or Dairy Alternatives

Whether your family prefers dairy or plant-based options, make sure to have milk, yogurt, or dairy-free alternatives stocked in your fridge. These provide important nutrients like calcium and vitamin D.

Canned Goods

Canned goods can be lifesavers when you’re short on time. Stock up on canned beans, tomatoes, tuna, and salmon. These ingredients can be quickly transformed into hearty salads, stews, or pasta dishes.

Herbs and Spices

Enhance the flavor of your dishes with a variety of herbs and spices. They can turn a simple meal into a culinary delight without the need for excessive salt or unhealthy seasonings.

If you’ve recently converted to veganism, it will take some adjustment to figure out how to feed yourself, what go-to recipes to use, and what foods to keep around in the house. So to help you out, here are some basic foods we recommend you keep around in your pantry at all times.

Legumes

Legumes are a key part of a vegan diet as they’re one of the best plant-based sources of protein. Here are a few you could consider buying:

  • Lentils
  • Black beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Pinto beans
  • White beans

Grains

Whole grains are an important, healthy part of a vegan diet that you can use to get in fiber and calories. There are tons of options, but here are some of the ones we like most:

  • Rice
  • Oats
  • Quinoa
  • Barley
  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Tortillas
  • Whole wheat bread

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are another big category for vegans. You can throw them in a salad, eat them as a snack, or include them in a meal recipe.

  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Chia seeds
  • Ground flaxseed
  • Pecans
  • Pistachios
  • Sesame seeds

Miscellaneous

Of course, there are other staples that don’t necessarily fit into the categories above that we still recommend you stock up on. This includes:

  • Agave syrup
  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Almond butter
  • Tamari
  • Tahini
  • Nutritional yeast

Cleaning out your pantry and fridge can be therapeutic, but don’t be tempted to throw everything out just because it’s been sitting there for a while. Here are three foods that have a longer lifespan than you think.

Pasta

Unopened dried pasta can be used for a lot longer after the expiration date on its package. It may lose some of its flavor, but it won’t spoil or be bad for you in any way.

Canned Beans

You can probably still use those canned beans that have been sitting in the back of your pantry for a few years. The same is true for dried beans, although they may need to be soaked longer if they’ve been sitting there for a while.

Vinegar

Vinegar basically can’t expire. It may change color or texture over time, but this doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it. Feel free to keep your vinegar in the pantry and use it when you need it without worrying about it.

There are so many different types of Indian food because the subcontinent is so huge. However, the Indian food that most Westerners know has a lot of similar ingredients in different combinations and different level of spiciness. If you love Indian food and want to try to make it yourself at home, you need to start with these pantry staples.

Spices

Spices are everything in Indian cooking. They are what brings life to each dish in its own unique way. Some of the most essential spices are cardamom pods, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, garam masala, and curry powder. Garam masala is something that changes from family to family, but you can usually find it at the grocery store or make it yourself at home.

Legumes

A lot of Indian dishes are vegetarian for religious purposes, so they use a lot of legumes in their dishes. Some basic things to have in your pantry are chickpeas and lentils, both which are used very often in different dishes and curries.

Basmati Rice

Rice is served almost always with Indian food, so it’s essential you have it on hand. If you want to be a little healthier, you can also get the whole wheat variety.

Whether you have a roommate who always has friends over or you’re just someone who loves to host, you never know when you’ll need to do some last minute hosting. However, just because you didn’t have time to plan it doesn’t mean you can’t still throw something nice together. Here are some basics you can keep in your pantry for a last minute get-together.

Wine

Red wine doesn’t need to be refrigerated so that’s a great drink to be able to offer people. If you have the room in your fridge, keep a few nice beers or bottle of white wine.

Pretzels

An unopened bag of pretzels can last a while, so keep them in there and just pour them into a bowl before everyone arrives, or even after they have.

Olives

Olives are pretty inexpensive and are a fun and different kind of snack to put out on the table. They can also be used as a garnish for martinis and other cocktails, so it’s good to keep a jar or can on hand.

Produce

Amid all the alcohol and snacks, it’s important to put even a small plater of fruits or vegetables out. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it will make people feel a little healthier.
