With Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve behind us, it’s easy to fall into a mid-winter funk. After all, the holidays are a time of togetherness and celebration, and there’s a lot less to look forward to on this side of the calendar. To add a little color to the cold, dark days and show our loved ones how much we care, we like to surprise them with some homemade Valentine’s Day treats. Here are a few we’ll be making this year.

Raspberry Cream Cheese Heart Tarts

Sweet tarts for your sweet heart. For breakfast, dessert, or just because, this recipe by Weelicious is a fun and simple way to say “I love you” through food—even if you’re someone who can barely boil an egg. Made with store-bought frozen pie dough and just a few other simple ingredients, they’re easy to whip up in just 30 minutes, though you’d never know from the way they taste.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Cupcakes

Chocolate-covered berries are a Valentine’s Day classic, but this recipe by Sally’s Baking Addiction puts a fun spin on the treat by turning it into fudgy chocolate cupcakes. A strawberry buttercream filling provides a nice tang to balance things out, while a homemade chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries on top tie it all together.

Pink Hot Chocolate

When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing quite like cozying up on the couch with your other-half over some good-old-fashioned hot chocolate, but on the day of love, we like to prepare this Valentine’s Day version for an extra-romantic touch. Sweet, creamy, and perfectly pink, it comes together in less than 10 minutes with just four ingredients. Serve with plenty of marshmallows and seal with a kiss.

Valentine’s Day isn’t complete without chocolate-covered strawberries and luckily, making them couldn’t be easier. This delicious, romantic dessert requires just two ingredients and it’s sure to please your special someone. Here’s your step-by-step guide for making chocolate-covered strawberries.

Step 1: Choose the Strawberries

The key to great chocolate-covered strawberries lies in the strawberries. Make sure you pick smaller ones, which are sweeter than the big strawberries. They should also be deep red.

Step 2: Prep the Strawberries

When you’re ready to make the dessert, rinse the strawberries with water and wait for them to dry.

Step 3: Choose the Chocolate

For one pound of strawberries, you’ll need about eight ounces of chocolate. Stay clear of chocolate chips as they don’t melt smoothly and instead opt for chopped semisweet, dark, or white chocolate.

Step 4:Temper the Chocolate

Tempering chocolate is the best way to melt it. Bring a saucepan filled with two inches of water to a simmer and place a metal bowl filled with two-thirds of the chocolate over the saucepan. Stir until the chocolate is melted and then remove the bowl from the saucepan and add the rest of the chocolate. Briefly reheat the chocolate over the saucepan.

Step 5: Line a Baking Sheet

To prevent dripping and sticking, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6: Dip the Strawberries

Dip the strawberries into the chocolate one at a time and twirl them to coat. Let the excess chocolate go back into the bowl. If you aren’t adding toppings, place the strawberries on the baking sheet.

Step 7: Add Toppings

After you dip the strawberry into the chocolate, it’s time to add the toppings. Pecans, toasted almonds, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and toasted almonds are all great choices. Put the toppings in a shallow bowl or on a plate and roll the strawberries in them. Press them gently to ensure they stick and lay them on the baking sheet.

When it comes to desserts, Taste of Home has got you covered with these ones that look almost too good to eat. We bet you won’t be able to resist having just one bite!

Chocolate-Topped Strawberry Cheesecake

Chocolate covered strawberries have been done so many times, but if you love the taste of them, whip up this chocolate-topped strawberry cheesecake. It features a chocolate cake with a strawberry cream cheese filling that’s finished with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries.

Mamaw Emily’s Strawberry Cake

Fans of strawberries have to try this elevated box cake that uses a white cake mix with additions like strawberries and strawberry gelatin. The cake comes together with a rich strawberry dressing.

Marbled Meringue Hearts

These pastel meringue hearts are as much a fun art project as they are a decadent dessert. They’re a Valentine’s Day take on a classic meringue that gets shaped into hearts.

When it comes to charcuterie boards over the past year, we’ve seen it all. Breakfast boards, charcuterie chalets, jarcuterie, hot cocoa boards, sundae boards—if there’s a food, it’s probably made it’s way to charcuterie boards. And now that the winter holidays are over, we’re seeing people trade in their wreath-shaped boards for heart-shaped ones for Valentine’s Day.

These boards are super romantic and they’re perfect for breakfast in bed—if you have a sweet tooth. They include cookies, cupcakes, and of course the most popular Valentine’s Day candies in America. While not all boards are heart-shaped, they have one thing in common—they’re red, pink, and white.

These boards are taking over Instagram under #candyboard with over 6,700 posts, and our favorites include ice cream, candy, fruit, and strawberry frosted cupcakes. Some of them even include salty treats like popcorn and pretzels. Who doesn’t love a sweet and salty combination?

Candy boards are perfect for grazing with your partner or roommates and they bring a bit of joy to Valentine’s Day this year which will be different than other years due to restrictions about eating out at restaurants. All you need to get started with these boards is a board, some red and pink candy, fruit, cupcakes, ice cream, and heart-shaped treats. You really can include whatever treats you have in your house.

If you are sucker for Valentine’s Day, then you’re probably already starting to plan what you’re going to have for dinner. If you want to really impress your partner, there’s a simple way to throw together a fantastic dinner.

Drinks

The easiest answer is, of course, champagne, but if you want to jazz it up, you can use some bubbly to make an Aperol spritz, a French 75, or just throw in some freshly squeezed juice of your choice.

Main Course

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bts7wr3FkLF/

If you want to go all out for dinner, make a streak for your main course. The easiest way to do that is to get a good but affordable cut like a ribeye or a flat iron steak, season well with salt and pepper, and sear in a pan with high heat. Baste it at the end with garlic, butter, and herbs, and you have a perfect main.

Dessert

Since you’ve done so much so far, take it easy and make some simple brownies for dessert. You don’t have to use any special techniques, you can make it in one big bowl and have it bake during dinner! If you want to make it more lovey-dovey, you can cut out pieces with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.

No matter if you have a romantic partner or not, it’s fun to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the people you love! Whether that is friends or family, any excuse to celebrate love should be taken. If you want to show up with some sweet treats, here are some fun sweets you can bring that are yummy and very loving!

Strawberries

Strawberries are a really fun fruit during Valentine’s Day, since they are red and almost shaped like a heart already! To make them look even more like a heart, just cut a ‘v’ into them to take out the stem and you have yourself a homemade heart! You can stick them on store-bought cupcakes, or even dip them in chocolate for an over the top delicious treat.

Cake Pops

Cake pops are great because you can also make them into heart shapes easily! Just crumble up a homemade or store-bought cake and mix with icing. Form the mixture into the shape of hearts, put a stick into them and chill in the freezer for half an hour until they are hardened. Dip into whatever color candy melts you want – either red, pink, white, or whatever you like – and enjoy!

Main Course

Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Have you got some plans?

Restaurants are fully booked and you don’t know how to celebrate this special day with your partner? How about staying in, cooking dinner, lighting up some candles and having a glass (or a few) of wine? It could not get more romantic than that.

Easy-To-Make
Chocolate-covered strawberries are easy to make and are perfect for this special night. And after all, is there something we love more than fruits dipped in chocolate?

Easy-To-Buy
This special day deserves to be celebrated with a good and expensive bottle of wine. Go out and look for your partner’s favorite wine. Add some candles and flowers on the table and you’re all set.
