Valentine’s Day isn’t complete without chocolate-covered strawberries and luckily, making them couldn’t be easier. This delicious, romantic dessert requires just two ingredients and it’s sure to please your special someone. Here’s your step-by-step guide for making chocolate-covered strawberries.

Step 1: Choose the Strawberries

The key to great chocolate-covered strawberries lies in the strawberries. Make sure you pick smaller ones, which are sweeter than the big strawberries. They should also be deep red.

Step 2: Prep the Strawberries

When you’re ready to make the dessert, rinse the strawberries with water and wait for them to dry.

Step 3: Choose the Chocolate

For one pound of strawberries, you’ll need about eight ounces of chocolate. Stay clear of chocolate chips as they don’t melt smoothly and instead opt for chopped semisweet, dark, or white chocolate.

Step 4:Temper the Chocolate

Tempering chocolate is the best way to melt it. Bring a saucepan filled with two inches of water to a simmer and place a metal bowl filled with two-thirds of the chocolate over the saucepan. Stir until the chocolate is melted and then remove the bowl from the saucepan and add the rest of the chocolate. Briefly reheat the chocolate over the saucepan.

Step 5: Line a Baking Sheet

To prevent dripping and sticking, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6: Dip the Strawberries

Dip the strawberries into the chocolate one at a time and twirl them to coat. Let the excess chocolate go back into the bowl. If you aren’t adding toppings, place the strawberries on the baking sheet.

Step 7: Add Toppings

After you dip the strawberry into the chocolate, it’s time to add the toppings. Pecans, toasted almonds, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and toasted almonds are all great choices. Put the toppings in a shallow bowl or on a plate and roll the strawberries in them. Press them gently to ensure they stick and lay them on the baking sheet.
