We’re now more than a full month into the new year, and it’s starting to become clear which trends are going to rule the world of wine in 2021. With new favorites and old friends both joining together to make up some of the biggest and hottest things when it comes to grapes this year, let’s take a look at three trends that have started off hot in 2021 and are sure to dominate over the coming months.

Online Ordering

The COVID-19 pandemic has made things tough at times for people to leave their homes to go shopping at wine stores, and we have even seen some of the stores close down, sadly. However, ordering wine online is seeing a resurgence in popularity after a boom around a decade ago thanks to its convenience and advantages.

Portugal’s Popularity

When you think of a European country that stands out when it comes to wine, Portugal probably isn’t the first one that comes to mind. However, after slowly gaining love over recent years, this small country on the Iberian Peninsula is finally beginning to stand out thanks to delicious choices like Alentejo reds and vinho verde from the country’s north.

Virtual Tasting Sessions

Although we’re beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the pandemic, the most responsible thing continues to be social distancing and avoiding unnecessary maskless encounters with people. This has made virtual wine tasting sessions where friends use video web apps to try wines and grade them a super popular thing to do.
