How Much Takeout Food is Too Much?

In today’s modern society, it’s easier than ever to order takeout food. From apps such as Uber Eats to countless others, getting delicious food delivered straight to your door—or picking it up yourself—has never been easier. However, in addition to takeout food being pretty expensive, it’s also not particularly healthy either. So how often should you be ordering takeout food before it gets to be too much?

No More Than Twice a Week

We give this recommendation loosely, and focus it heavily on dinner. Lunchtime is tough to gauge, because many people eat out almost daily because they’re at the office every single day. But when you take lunch out of the equation, dinnertimes are where you need to monitor your takeout.

Twice a week isn’t ideal—we’d honestly recommend closer to one or none at all—but we also recognize that people are human and that it’s not always easy. In addition, not all takeout places are particularly unhealthy. Some specialize in foods that are super nutritious, but that doesn’t exactly fix the problem that they’re still pretty darn expensive.

Then again, everyone’s situation is different. If money is no issue for you, and you hate cooking, and you order from exclusively healthy restaurants, then by all means go all out. Order takeout every night if you must! This is just a loose recommendation for most people, and we’ve found that it’s pretty effective.
