After cooking fried foods, you’re often left with tons of oil and the question becomes, what are you supposed to do with it? One thing for sure is you should NEVER pour it down the kitchen sink or shower drain. It’ll damage your pipes and sewer system. There are safer ways to dispose of used cooking oil. Here’s what you should do with it.

Reuse It

Before you figure out how to get rid of the used oil, think about reusing it. You can use the oil once or twice before dumping it and you can also mix it with new oil, to make the oil last longer.

Let it Cool and Then Transfer It

After you’re done with the oil, let it cool and then transfer it to a disposable container to allow it to become solid. You may have to refrigerate or freeze the container to get it to solidify. Once it’s solid, you can throw it into the trash.

Grease Disposing System

First, consider cutting down on the oil by using a deep skillet instead of a large Dutch oven. Also, consider investing in a grease disposal system which uses large, foil-lined bags to safely dispose of the oil.
