Poached eggs make for a delicious, high-protein brunch. Poaching an egg is easy but poaching an egg neatly requires a little practice. Here is a foolproof guide to cooking the perfect boiled egg.

Use Fresh Free Range Eggs

Fresh eggs have a thicker white which will make the eggs set easier in the middle. Free-range eggs are tastier and higher quality in general.

Crack Into a Bowl

Instead of cracking your egg straight into boiling water, crack your egg into a bowl first. This makes it easier to slide into the pan.

Boil The Water

Fill your pan about halfway with water and boil. When the water starts to boil, bring it down into a simmer. Stir the water to create a whirlpool effect prior to adding your egg to the pan.

Tip The Egg In The Pan

Next, tip the egg slowly into the pan. Keep the heat low and cook for three minutes or until the egg white is set.

Carefully Lift Out The Egg

To remove the egg from the pan, use a slotted spoon to gently lift the egg. Add salt and pepper to taste and voila, you have the perfect poached egg!
