This year, Mardi Gras celebrations will be toned down quite a bit. But if you can’t make it to New Orleans, don’t sweat it—because you can sip on these traditional cocktails on Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras takes place on February 16th, so you have plenty of time to figure out your favorite cocktail from this list. Check out these five traditional New Orleans cocktails.

Sazerac

Sazeracs were invented all the way back in the 19th century and they’re New Orleans’ official cocktail. They feature anise-flavored liqueur, bitters, rye whisky, simple syrup, and a lemon peel.

Hurricane

Hurricanes are super refreshing and they’re one of NOLA’s most famous drinks. They feature two types of rum, grenadine, passion fruit, and orange juice. Top them off with an orange slice and maraschino cherries.

Bourbon Hot Toddy

A Hot Toddy is ideal for when you’re feeling under the weather and they include water, bourbon, honey, and lemon juice. To complete the drink, garnish it with a cinnamon stick and a lemon slice.

Mint Julep

It doesn’t get much more southern than a mint julep. This super refreshing drink is made with bourbon, water, white sugar, and mint leaves poured over crushed ice.

Daiquiris

Strawberry or watermelon, the choice is yours, but when in NOLA you can find these everywhere, and you can get them by the cup or gallon.
