Make More of Your Mushrooms

Mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes, and they have been part of the culinary world for centuries. While a simple mushroom preparation can be delicious on its own, there are many ways to use mushrooms that steer quite a bit off the traditional route. Consider some of these ideas next time you want to eat something a little more interesting.

Mushroom Meatballs

For a nice vegetarian twist on a rich, meaty dish, substitute your ground meats with diced up mushrooms (we like a mix of cremini, baby bella, and oyster mushrooms). Use plenty of breadcrumbs and cheeses to hold the “meat” together. If you’re going for a vegan version, add in some rolled oats and nutritional yeast.

Mushroom Tea

This might sound like an oddity, but it is actually quite common in certain areas of the world. Dried mushrooms used in tea have a variety of health benefits and can actually be surprisingly tasty!

Mushroom Jerky

If you’re a fan of dried meat snacks but are trying to limit your consumption of animal products, mushroom jerky is a must-try! You’ll want to use large, meaty mushrooms such as portabellas so that your jerky has some substance and texture. After using your favorite marinade overnight, simply cook the mushrooms on low heat for about 2 hours.
