Shortbread cookies are a Scottish tradition, especially around the holidays. Every shortbread recipe is actually the same in proportion, since it only requires 1 part sugar, 2 parts butter, and 3 parts flour. With these proportions, you can make as much or as little as you want. Shortbread cookies are really delicious, sturdy, and great to give as gifts.
Instructions
- For this recipe, start by heating up your oven to 375 F.
- Beat 2 oz of sugar and 4 oz of softened butter in a bowl until it’s smooth and pale.
- Add in 6 oz of flour into the mixture and stir it in until it creates a paste-like substance.
- Take the dough and roll it out until it is 1/2 inch thick.
- Then, cut the dough out into whatever shapes you want. If you’re making them for a holiday, you can create a shape related to that, like hearts for Valentine’s Day or a four-leaf clover for St. Patrick’s day.
- Sprinkle over more sugar onto each of the cookies and put them into the fridge for 20-30 minutes to harden up a bit.
- Put the cookies into the oven for about 15-20 minutes until they just get a little more brown, but they shouldn’t be too golden.
- Allow them to cool and enjoy!
