Poached eggs are one of the most popular ways to have eggs and they are delicious as a breakfast or brunch meal. However, they are also one of the trickier eggs to get just right. Use these tips to get perfect poached eggs every time.

Add salt and vinegar to your water

It may sound like a strange combination, and most people would understandably not want their eggs to taste like vinegar. However, if you add a little splash of either white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar, it will not impart a vinegar flavor to your poached eggs. What it will do is help your eggs to remain intact and avoid them breaking apart in the water.

Stir the water before adding your eggs

Another way to get your eggs to remain intact is to stir the water with a spoon before adding them slowly in. This will help them to remain whole and avoid you losing lots of the egg to the water. It’s important to note that lowering your eggs slowly into the water is also crucial.

Cook them on a low heat

Many people poach their eggs into boiling water, which can prevent the eggs from cooking as a whole and mean they break apart. The best way is to have water that is very gently bubbling and to cook your eggs on a low heat for anywhere between 2-3 minutes. After this, it’s best to use a large spoon with holes in it to remove the eggs from the pan and drain them of excess water.

Hard-boiled eggs are a great food in that they’re nutritious, easy to make, and their cooking process is pretty quick (shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes overall). You can’t really mess up a hard-boiled egg, but the only potential mishap that can make it slightly less appealing to serve is if the shell cracks mid-cooking. This would normally make some of the yolk spill out and give it an awkward shape. This kind of thing actually happens quite often but is really easy to avoid.

If you love yourself some hard-boiled eggs to go with your breakfast, lunch or dinner, there’s a super-simple trick that can help keep your egg whole throughout the entire cooking process.

All you need is a wooden match or toothpick! That’s pretty much it.

If you’re using a match, just break off the tip (the part you would normally use to light it) so you’re only left with the wooden part.

Before you start cooking the egg, add one or two wooden toothpicks/tipless matches into the water. This is sure to keep the shell from cracking and leave you with a perfect hard-boiled egg. Bon appรฉtit, baby!

Eggs are a simple, classic, go-to food for breakfast and beyond, but cooking them can be surprisingly challenging and require a lot of technique if you want the best possible results. So here are some chef secrets that will help you make different styles of eggs as successfully as possible.

Scrambled

Using a saucepan instead of a frying pan on medium-low heat will assure that your eggs cook evenly, as the heavier bottom of the pan has even heat, and keeping it from getting too hot will give you enough time for nice curds to form in your scrambled eggs. Adding some creme fraiche at the end of the process can add a delectable tang and creaminess.

Poached

Poached eggs are a little bit more ambitious, but you can totally pull it off. Just remember to use vinegar in your water, crack the egg into a bowl first instead of directly into the water, and ease the egg carefully into the simmering water instead of just dumping it right in.

Fried

To prevent your fried eggs from sticking, you can either use a non-stick pan or a regular pan with a layer of very, very hot oil in the bottom. Higher heat will also keep it nice and crispy.

There are so many options for the type of eggs to buy, that it can get extremely overwhelming knowing which egg is right for you. There’s cage-free, free-range, organic, pasture-raised – what’s the best option? If the egg aisle is giving you a headache with all the terminology, this is the guide for you.ย

Cage-Free

What this term means is that the chickens are not in cages, which is the worst scenario for a chicken. However, this doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™re running around happily. They are still most likely in a dark and crowded barn or building where they are not exposed to light or the great outdoors, but since they arenโ€™t in cages, companies are free to use this term for marketing.ย

Free Range

Again, this term is more of a marketing scheme than it leads to believe. While these kinds of eggs come from chickens who have not been in cages, they arenโ€™t roaming free on a pasture all day long. Rather, they are allowed to be outside for a certain amount of time in their life, but itโ€™s usually minimal.ย

Organic

This relates to the type of feed the chickens are given, and with organic eggs comes organic feed. This isnโ€™t telling about the conditions of the chickens, but you do know that what they are eating is organic and free of antibiotics, which means you arenโ€™t ingesting anything unhealthy in that way.ย

Pasture Raised

This label is the truest, and these eggs come from chickens who only graze on pastures their entire life.ย
