Hard-boiled eggs are a great food in that they’re nutritious, easy to make, and their cooking process is pretty quick (shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes overall). You can’t really mess up a hard-boiled egg, but the only potential mishap that can make it slightly less appealing to serve is if the shell cracks mid-cooking. This would normally make some of the yolk spill out and give it an awkward shape. This kind of thing actually happens quite often but is really easy to avoid.

If you love yourself some hard-boiled eggs to go with your breakfast, lunch or dinner, there’s a super-simple trick that can help keep your egg whole throughout the entire cooking process.

All you need is a wooden match or toothpick! That’s pretty much it.

If you’re using a match, just break off the tip (the part you would normally use to light it) so you’re only left with the wooden part.

Before you start cooking the egg, add one or two wooden toothpicks/tipless matches into the water. This is sure to keep the shell from cracking and leave you with a perfect hard-boiled egg. Bon appétit, baby!
