French toast is one of those brunch staples that are truly worth the hype, but it has one major downside. Like most foods that include bread, French toast isn’t that healthy, but there are three short steps that you can take if you want to make it more nutritious.

Different Bread

The first rule of fixing French toast applies to any food made with toast: just make sure you’re going with the right kind of bread. Whole grain bread is the best possible option, but you can basically go with any type of gluten-free bread sold at your local bakery.

Ditch Unhealthy Ingredient

Replacing white bread with a healthier variety is the first step of fixing your French toast, and you should do the same with other ingredients. If you’re using milk, make sure to go with one of the plant-based varieties and avoid using sugar if the recipe calls for it, or replace it with natural sweeteners.

Topping Choice

The toppings that you’re using can make or break your French toast. A lot of people use chocolate spreads to make their French toast sweeter, but nut butter and maple syrup are healthier options. Fruits are always a good idea because they’ll improve the fiber content of your French toast.

Eggs are something that you are bound to find in most kitchens. Many times, we end up buying cartons of eggs at the grocery store and then completely forget that we have them. By the time they’re about to expire, it’s too late to do anything about it! But instead of overlooking eggs, if you realize that you have some in your kitchen that need to be used, here are three delicious recipes for you to try.

Spanish Omelette

You might know about regular omelettes, a tasty egg-centric classic, but have you ever tried a Spanish omelette before? This recipe takes an egg and potato base and combines them with onions and whatever ingredients you want. Some ideas include chorizo, red peppers, and cheese!

Quiche

An egg tart known as a quiche is a great option to use up some extra eggs if you have them in your kitchen. Use a pie crust or make one on your own and then bake eggs along with vegetables, meat, or fish in order to make this tasty French favorite.

French Toast

Not everything made with eggs has to be savory, and french toast is a great example of a recipe that uses eggs to make a sweet end product. This recipe involves dipping pieces of bread in a sweet egg batter that contains sugar and cinnamon and frying them in oil or butter. Yum!

One of the best parts of camping is the campfire food. While hotdogs and s’mores have become super popular, there are so many other recipes you have to try that are a bit more special. They’re super easy to make and they’ll make your campfire experience even more delicious and memorable. Here are three recipes you have to try on your next camping adventure.

Campfire French Toast

French toast is the ultimate breakfast and this one has all the basics like eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and white bread and it’s topped with strawberries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. Breakfast doesn’t get tastier than this!

Campfire Beef Kebabs

Kebabs make for great camping food and this beef kebab one has barely any prep work and you can cook them right on the fire. These beef kebabs include veggies and pineapple for a sweet and savory mix.

Campfire S’mores in a Cone

You can’t go camping without having s’mores and this s’mores cone is an elevated take on the classic. You’re just going to fill ice cream cones with chocolate and marshmallows and wrap them in foil before popping them on the grill.

We can never seem to get enough French toast. This doughy dish tastes more like a dessert than a breakfast, which is one of the reasons why we love it so much. But when making French toast, not all breads are created equal and if you don’t use the right kind, the whole thing can fall apart. These are the five best breads to use for French toast.

Brioche

There’s a reason why French toast recipes often call for Brioche bread—it’s thick, buttery, and sturdy, which helps it stand up to the egg, vanilla, milk, and sugar mixture.

Sourdough

This bread is slightly tangy, which balances out the sweetness of the dish. You don’t have to worry about the bread falling apart as sourdough is super sturdy.

French Bread

Baguettes work well for French toast because they’re crispy and thick. When you cut the loaf, make sure you make thick round slices.

Challah

There’s nothing worse than a loaf of challah going to waste and instead of throwing it, use it for French toast. The braiding of the challah makes for a beautiful French toast that’s almost too pretty to eat.

White Bread

French toast bread doesn’t always have to be high-quality or fancy. Thick-sliced white bread will do the trick.

Believe it or not, the penultimate month of the year is just a handful of days away! This month has all kinds of fun food traditions, including Thanksgiving and the beginning of apple cider and hot chocolate season, but did you know that there are officially commemorated days to celebrate some of our favorite foods in this month?

Here are some that you must add to your agenda!

November 4: National Candy Day

Let’s be honest here: we all love sweet treats, and National Candy Day is the perfect excuse to throw caution to the wind and plan a celebration including your favorite candies. We always celebrate this holiday with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and you can choose whatever you celebrate with!

November 15: National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day

It’s way too easy to find your refrigerator disorganized and full of food that is expired or unwanted. Take advantage of this November 15th holiday to do a deep cleaning and reorganization of this essential kitchen appliance.

November 28: National French Toast Day

French toast is one of my preferred breakfast treats, and you can bet that we will be whipping up a batch of it on November 28th! Whether you like topping them with maple syrup, chocolate sauce, fruit, or ice cream, this is the day to treat yourself to some french toast.

There’s nothing quite like a tasty plate of french toast for breakfast or brunch, is there? This deceptively simple dish to make is a favorite in the United States that is beloved by man thanks to its sweet taste and easy preparation.

Are you looking to make your french toast memorable? Don’t eat it plain! Instead, try out these toppings, which make it taste even better.

Maple Syrup

The classic topping for french toast is maple syrup, a delectable treat that is collected from the sugar maple trees of the northeastern US and parts of Canada. Rich and bursting with hints of caramel and toffee, this “liquid gold” is a must for your french toast.

Powdered Sugar

Powdered sugar is another popular topping for french toast for those who don’t have access to maple syrup or prefer a different sweet touch. Sprinkle a light dusting of powdered sugar on top of your french toast to sweeten it up a bit.

Blueberries

Whether you use maple syrup or powdered sugar (or no sweet topping at all!), blueberries are another great addition on top of your French Toast. The mild tartness of this tasty fruit is the perfect balance for all of the rich sweetness of the plate.
