Scrolling through Deb Perelman’s recipes shared on her food blog The Smitten Kitchen and accompanying Instagram page, it’s easy to understand why she’s become such an authority amongst bloggers and foodies alike. Not one to fall for recent fads, her approach to cooking is one we can get behind with. Mainly: that cooking should be unfussy.

According to Perelman, you won’t find in her recipes any mention of pretentious ingredients such as truffle oil and Himalayan pink salt. What you can expect to find in her recipes is a conversational tone and blunt humor that make the cooking process all the more approachable (in a recent post about corn kernels she writes “this is my platonic ideal of a corn fritter”; in another, she stresses that “yes, we absolutely need a recipe for a cream cheese pound cake in our lives”).

Using the same cheeky tone, Perelman promotes The Smitten Kitchen as “the place to find your new favorite thing to cook.” On her website, she describes her work as “Fearless cooking from a tiny kitchen in New York City.”

With over 14 years of blogging experience, Perelman’s kitchen has a rich archive that includes over 100 salad recipes, a lot of comfort foods stepped up a bit (things like bread and birthday cakes made entirely from scratch), and tutorials on everything from how to poach an egg to how to make tart doughs that don’t shrink up on you.

But in an interview with A Cup of Jo Perelman stressed that her number one tip to beginners is to start small—find your one specialty and stick to it: “There’s this idea people have that ‘I need to learn to cook,’ but just pick one thing,” she notes. “Learn to roast chicken or learn to make a great pasta sauce. And focus on the things you can’t get good versions of. The delivery you order and it tastes like trash? Cook that!”

With over 1.5 million followers on Instagram, Perelman’s advice has clearly found an approving audience. Join the hype!

With some 3 million followers on Instagram, we might as well crown food stylist, recipe developer, and author, Tieghan Gerard, as the queen of Instagram foodies. Based in Colorado, Gerard rose to prominence thanks to her down-to-earth approach to cooking which she promoted on her blog Half Baked Harvest.

A foodie through and through, the secret ingredient to Gerard’s cooking (as cliche as it may sound) is love. According to the seasoned blogger, her recipes are inspired by the people and places she loves most, with the goal to make mealtime a happier time.

Seeing as she comes from a large family, this makes perfect sense. “I am one of seven kids, so my parents had their hands full with my brothers and me,” Gerard told All Sorts Of. “We wouldn’t eat until nine or ten at night.” Wanting to tame some of these chaotic meals, Gerard took to cooking by the age of 14.

“One night I just decided I was making dinner,” she recalls. “I think I made a Rachel Ray recipe and everyone loved it. I’ve been cooking for friends and family ever since.” The love of cooking was hence tied with this positive experience, and seeing other people’s hearty reactions made the hard work worthwhile. “I love to cook for people, seeing their reactions is so rewarding!” says Gerard.

These days, her cooking and recipes are still very much tied to family mealtimes. Gerard’s house—a converted horse barn that was designed entirely around her lifestyle—provides the perfect backdrop to her passion-turned-full-time job. “It’s where I shot my first cookbook, and where I spend my days experimenting with new recipes, photographing my creations, feeding my family, and making one giant mess in the process,” she explains.

Recent recipe highlights we’re dying to recreate include her Strawberry Pink Drink. “When everyone around me was carrying a pretty pink drink, an idea hit and the homemade ‘pink drink’ was created,” writes Gerard on her Instagram page, explaining that the drink is a version of the Starbucks favorite, but healthier and made with double the strawberry, açaí, and extra creaminess. “It’s so creamy, it’s almost milkshake-like,” she writes. “This is good you guys. trust me, make it a home.” Oh, we shall!

We get it: you are what you eat; and what you eat projects on your well-being and health. A well-balanced diet (with a healthy dose of veggies) is key to a happy life. But sometimes, just sometimes, we feel like indulging ourselves. Dennis Prescott’s Instagram page is where we head to when the cravings get to us.

A Canadian chef and cookbook author, Prescott’s is a master when it comes to the art of deliciousness. “Deliciousness requires risk,” he remarked in an interview with Medium. “Taking risks guarantees failure while on the road to success.” A mix of high brow and lowbrow, his posts include flavour-packed lamb burgers and duck confit tacos, with mouthwatering photos that make that salad bowl you were planning for lunch look extra sad.

To enjoy Prescott’s recipes we recommend going to the source: his cookbook, titled aptly Eat Delicious. The book includes 125 recipes for your daily dose of awesome, featuring comfort food from around the globe that can be prepared by any home cook, no matter their skill level.

Indeed, Prescott’s journey to becoming a celebrated chef, might just inspire you to get cooking. A once struggling musician living in Nashville, TN, he learned how to cook by working his way through several Jamie Oliver cookbooks. Working alongside chefs in various restaurants, lead him to travel the world as a chef and ultimately become the master he is today.

“When I started, I naively thought all I’d have to focus on was food,” he says. “Wrong. Should you aspire to the best chef you can be? Absolutely! That said, I spend much more time working on account receivables and in meetings than I do in the kitchen.”

You can purchase his book online or follow some selected recipes on his personal website. But it’s his Instagram page where you should really put an emphasis on.

If you’ve ever tried baking cookies, you know that it’s a relaxing activity that ends with a batch of delicious treats. But when you bake at home, you don’t really need to pay attention to decorating your cookies. On the other hand, when you make cookies that will go on Instagram, you want to do everything you can to make them look perfect. Baker Stephanie Giordano from Baked by Steph knows how to do this and she shared some of her top tips with Hello Magazine.

She Sifts Icing Sugar

Sifting the icing mix before adding water is an important step if you want to avoid lumps. It’s the first thing you need to do if you want picture-perfect cookies.

Her Icing is Consistent

Outline icing and flood icing should be split into two consistencies. Giordano explains that “outline icing should be fairly thick, like toothpaste, and hold its shape when piped,” while “flood icing should be runnier than outline and shouldn’t hold its shape.”

She Avoids Air Bubbles

This talented baker recommends mixing the flood icing on a low setting and letting it sit for five minutes, then mixing again at a low speed. This is a neat trick that will help you get rid of the annoying air bubbles.

I’ve had the opportunity to travel and sample traditional foods from different destinations, but I’ve never been able to do anything like @girleatworld does.

The formula for her photos is simple. She simply holds a typical food from wherever she’s traveling in her left hand and snaps a picture of it in front of a mesmerizing background. After this, she shares the picture to her account and gives us a glimpse at what it’s like to eat your way around the world.

Hi everyone!!! I'm back with a little… 4 year challenge. I managed to find the same Bakso push cart in Gili Trawangan that @singasongjess and I visited 4 years ago! I swear it wasn't planned – I was just biking down the road, spotted a bakso cart and of course I had to stop. It was only after taking the photo and comparing it with the one I took 4 years ago that I realized I was actually standing at the same spot! He was still charging the same amount per bowl. The island has changed quite a bit though. The first image was taken in 2019 and the second image is the one I took in 2015. Swipe right/left and spot the difference. What is Bakso? Ask any Indonesian about Bakso and i'm sure you would be met with excitement. It's a small bowl of yellow noodles, meatballs and fresh beansprouts in clear beef broth, served with fried shallots, chili and kecap (sweet soy sauce). Bakso is traditionally sold on the street in a small push cart (called "gerobak" in Indonesian) that would go around the neighborhood during supper time and you have to catch the bakso guy at the right time. Because of its small portion, we normally eat it as snacks for supper or midday between meals. Nowadays you can also get them at restaurants for a meal-sized bowl. We got this off a push cart in Gili for less than $2 and proceeded to eat it on the side of the street. #shotoniphone #iphonexsmax #giliislands #gili #lombok #lombokisland #beach #gilitrawangan #visitlombok #explorelombok #girleatworld #indonesia #bakso

Mel has truly traveled around the world to find the foods and landscapes that she shares in her posts. From Brooklyn to Bali, she travels everywhere and eats everything.

Wednesday: Soda Bagels, soda bread made in a bagel shape 👊🏼 with all the classics, smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, onion, lemon and some beautiful French breakfast radish. I like the combination of the typically Jewish and Irish which immediately makes me think of NYC 🗽 Not only does soda bread take considerably less time, but putting a hole in the middle eliminates the risk of having a raw centre too, plus I love the taste. Recipe below ⏬⏬⏬ – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – 250g flour (I used regular plain flour) 50g oats (with extra for garnish) 1 tsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp bicarb of soda 1 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp honey or treacle or I used Dutch stroop 300ml buttermilk or 300ml milk with 2 tbsp lemon juice 1 egg – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – 1 – Oven to 180c, prepare a tray with baking paper 2 – Combine all the dry ingredients 3 – Separate bowl or jug, combine all the wet and add to the dry 4 – Mix together being careful not to over stir, the mix should be wet(ish) 5 – Cut the dough into four equal pieces, it’s easier to handle with wet hands. Place on the tray with room to grow and use your finger to poke a hole in the middle. Stretch it out a bit like a bagel 6 – Garnish with oats and maybe a sprinkle of salt too 7 – Bake for 25 minutes but check at 20 8 – Leave to cool for 5 minutes before slicing open and serve 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 #symmetrybreakfast

Have you ever wanted to travel your way around the globe, eating the tastiest dishes from all of your destinations in the most beautiful of places?

I’ve had the opportunity to travel and sample traditional foods from different destinations, but I’ve never been able to do anything like @girleatworld does.

Mel, a foodie and travel blogger, travels around the world, sampling dishes from different countries. She shares stunning pictures of the food she eats with gorgeous backdrops on her fascinating Instagram account.

This French pastry chef started making his own pastries at the age of 12, and he hasn’t stopped since then. Now, he is the executive pastry chef at the five-star Le Meurice Hotel in the heart of Paris.

He draws inspiration from traditional French pastries, but he also puts unique, modernist touches in his creations. For example, one of his signature moves is to create pastries with the form of fruits.
