]]>Yucatán is a place where you can see historical Mayan ruins, try traditional slow-roasted pork dish, and get your hands on some Melipona honey with incredible healing properties. The special thing about this honey is that it contains twice the nutrients compared to regular honey and it’s more often used as a medicine than as a food sweetener.
The locals have been practicing Meliponicultura for over 3,000 years. The ancient Mayans used this honey to treat many medical conditions. Thanks to the way Melipona bees work, it contains more fructose than glucose which separates it from other types of honey.
The only downside is that not nearly enough Melipona honey is being produced. If you want to try some, getting it will not be easy, but it should be worth the trouble.

You can also add to the mixture fresh ginger, a cinnamon stick, lemon or lime juice, cloves, or mint. These are all extras but they give a really fantastic flavor to the drink.
Pour all the ingredients into a container or jar and stir. Leave in the fridge at least a few hours but no more than 24 or the drink will start to get too bitter. Strain out all the ingredients, mix it again and enjoy! You can keep this delightful drink for up to a week in your fridge.
