Why Orange Juice Isn’t As Healthy As You Think

So many people try really hard to do their part when it comes to eating healthily. Of course, it comes as no surprise that some people are much better than others at achieving this feat. This is because there are certain products out there that people eat or drink in order to make them feel as though they’re consuming something healthy, when in reality that’s actually not the case. Orange juice is a great example of this—and here’s why.

Loaded With Sugar

So many people see orange juice in the refrigerator and think, “It’s not soda, it’s not candy, it’s not fried. Heck it’s a fruit-based drink, and therefore it must be healthy.” Indeed, the fact that orange juice is based on a fruit leads many to believe that they’re drinking something healthy.

While orange juice does have a lot of health benefits, it also has a ton of sugar. Oranges themselves help slow down sugar absorption, but many commercial orange juice brands fail to deliver on this promise. Due to the factorial processing that goes on through mass production of store-bought orange juice, it reduces the healthy qualities that make oranges healthy.

Freshly Squeezed

It should be noted that freshly squeezed orange juice is a lot better. Although it does host its own bevy of natural sugars from the oranges themselves (and we’re talking a lot), it’s still a much better option than the processed orange juice you see in the store.
