5 Surprising Foods that the Royal Family Never Eats

The new season of The Crown put the royal family back in the spotlight and offered a closer look at their lives, but have you ever wondered what the daily menu at the Buckingham Palace looks like? There are apparently some foods that the Queen and the rest of the royals try to avoid at all costs and these five fall under that category.

Onions

Garlic and onions can lead to bad breath, and former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed that palace chefs aren’t allowed to use them in the dishes they prepare for the royal family.

Shellfish

According to the former royal butler Grant Harold, shellfish is also a no-no for the members of the royal family because it can lead to serious reactions and even food poisoning.

Rare Meat

Rare meat is also off-limits for the royals due to its risk of food poisoning, especially during international travels. The Queen, in particular, avoids rare meat because she prefers it well-done.

Starchy Carbs

Pasta, rice, and potatoes aren’t entirely avoided by the members of the royal family, but The Queen isn’t a huge fan of starchy carbs and they’re only served on special occasions.

Foie Gras

This French delicacy made of the liver of a duck or goose has been banned from the royal menu by Prince Charles out of his concern for animal welfare.
