Mashed potatoes are a side dish that goes with everything. They are a staple for the holidays that are quickly approaching, so if you haven’t perfected the technique for making them yet, it’s the right time to start practicing. Here are our best tips for making mashed potatoes.

Choosing Potato Kind

There are over 200 kinds of potatoes and not all of them are great for everything. When it comes to mashed potatoes, you’ll get the best results with Yukon Gold. Peel them and cut them into medium-sized chunks before boiling them. When they are done, remove them from water and dry well.

Hand Mashing

Don’t use a blender to make mashed potatoes. They will get an awful texture that can’t be fixed later. Instead, get those potatoes while they are still hot (but dry) and mash them by hand until they are perfect.

Adding Liquid

It’s important to add liquid gradually for two reasons. First, the potatoes will absorb it easier and the dish will blend better. Second, you may not need as much as you’ve prepared, so it’s better to take it slow and stop when you like how it looks and tastes.

Happy cooking!
