Here’s How to Roast Chestnuts, Just in Time for the Holiday Season

When holiday season comes around and we hear Nat King Cole’s “Christmas Song”, specifically the lyrics “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”, we always wonder how do you actually roast chestnuts. Instead of roasting them on an open fire, this recipe roasts them in the oven. So next time you go grocery shopping, pick up a bag of chestnuts and get to roasting them with this easy recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound chestnuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 F.
  2. With a knife, make a large X into the flat side of each chestnut.
  3. Place the chestnuts on a parchment paper-lined baking pan and roast them in the oven for about 30 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally to ensure they cook evenly.
  4. When the chestnuts are cool enough to handle, peel away the fuzzy inner skin just below the outer shell and enjoy!
