Hash browns are one of the most sumptuous breakfast treats you can have, and making them at home elevates them to a whole new level. This simple recipe allows you to make delicious, homemade hash browns with a perfect crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. Customize them by adding cheese, herbs, or other spices to suit your taste preferences.
Ingredients:
- 4 medium-sized russet potatoes
- 1 small onion
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions:
- Grate the peeled potatoes using a box grater. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out any excess moisture.
- In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, chopped onion, flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Take a handful of the potato mixture and shape it into a flat patty. Place it in the hot oil, and repeat with the remaining mixture, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet.
- Fry the hash browns for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a spatula to flip them carefully.
- Once cooked, transfer the hash browns to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve the hash browns hot and crispy, pairing them with your favorite dipping sauce or enjoying them as a side dish for breakfast or brunch.
