One of our favorite childhood memories consists of sitting around a campfire with friends and family, putting a marshmallow on a stick, roasting it in the fire, and then adding it and a piece of chocolate between two graham crackers to make a tasty s’more.

As foodies, we have now largely moved onto more sophisticated and complex recipes. However, s’mores can take a turn toward the gourmet if you know what to add to them! Check out these three ideas.

Gourmet Dark Chocolate

Let’s face it: when growing up, we usually just took a piece of Hershey’s chocolate and used it as the chocolate element for our s’mores. Taking a piece of gourmet dark chocolate, however, is a twist that we can put on this classic recipe now to give it a more complex taste.

Roasted Berries

Tart flavors can add complexity and depth of flavor to sweet dishes, and roasted berries are a great way to implement this in s’mores. Add some blueberries, raspberries, and/or blackberries that have been warmed and roasted to your final product and you will fall in love!

Salted Caramel

Caramel always goes well with chocolate, and one great application for this confectionery product is as an addition to s’mores. Simply use a salted version, as a normal version will end up two sweet, and then drizzle it inside of the sandwich.
