Yesterday was Pound Cake Day. This brings already good smells into our kitchen!

The Pound Cake’s name comes from the 18th Century in Europe, where the original recipes appeared to be a pound’s weight for each ingredient. Technically, this would be a cake of 4 pounds. Quite heavy. They had been made for large gatherings or with intention of selling individual slices. Therefore, today, there are some new recipes that make the pound cake, lighter, smaller and more moist with a buttery consistency.

Making a pound cake is so easy and should be done today (and every other day of the year), to celebrate this national food-day. You could share it with your family or bring it to work to share it with your co-workers.

In order to have the best pound cake, you could stick to the traditional recipe or you could try some newer recipes and make the cake lighter by first whisking the eggs and then adding some baking powder. To add a little sweet taste, you could add vanilla essence to the mixture and then top it with some sprinkles. Delicious.
