Cooking meat over fire is a tradition found in many cultures, and the US is no exception. The Southern states in particular are associated with their long-standing barbecue culture. As straightforward as it may seem, the way the meat is prepared does vary from place to place. Here are a few distinct barbecue traditions and their defining characteristics.

Memphis

Barbecue in Memphis primarily refers to pork. The city is known for its ribs, which can be divided into “dry” and “wet” versions. Wet ribs are basted in a tomato-based sauce before, during, and after cooking, while dry-rubbed ribs are covered with a blend of spices and herbs, smoked, and served with sauce on the side.

Texas

Texas barbecue is all about beef, but it’s perhaps most famous for brisket smoked over oak and served without sauce, either in slices or on a sandwich. In South Texas, you’ll find more mesquite-smoked barbecue, and the Eastern part of the state is known for its chopped pork and beef sandwich.

Kansas City

In Kansas City, you’ll find melded traditions from the Carolinas, Memphis, and Texas. But it is also the birthplace of one special barbecue dish: the burnt ends. Those are the point ends of the brisket that have been double smoked, yielding a caramelized crisp exterior and richly flavored interior.

BBQ parties are one of the most fun and delicious ways to spend time with your friends and family during hot summer days. Skewers are one of the foods that no barbecue can go without, and preparing this dish starts with choosing between wooden and metal skewers.

Wooden Skewers

Usually made with bamboo, wooden skewers are a popular option due to their low price tag and most people opt for them when planning a last-minute BBQ party. The tricky thing about them is that you can’t reuse them again and that you have to be pretty careful along the way.

These skewers are made of wood, so they could easily catch fire and scorch your food if you’re not cautious enough. Make sure to soak them in cold water for at least half an hour before getting ready to grill your meats and veggies.

Metal Skewers

Metal skewers may be a little bit more expensive than the wooden variety, but they’re a pretty good investment. If BBQ parties are pretty frequent in your household, they definitely won’t go to waste.

Usually made from stainless steel, metal skewers have a longer life span than wooden ones. You don’t have to worry about soaking them in water so they wouldn’t burn, but it’s recommended to spray them with some cooking oil so the food wouldn’t stick to the skewers.

Nothing quite says summer like a good barbecue. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy the weather with friends and family, while enjoying good food, good company, and good times. But if you’re thinking of hosting BBQ parties, you need to make sure you cater to all of your guests. You need solid plant-based options that are just as delicious as the meat dishes. Here are some of the best plant-based BBQ dishes that your guests will love.

Corn On The Cob

Simply take an ear of corn, give a light coating of olive oil, and pop it onto the barbecue. Turn frequently. Once each side of the corn is nicely grilled, it’s ready to eat! For best results, serve with melted butter.

Stuffed Pepper

Gut out a variety of sweet bell peppers and fill with your choice of filling. A good plant-based option is stir-fried rice with eggplant, peas and onion. Grill on the BBQ until soft.

Vegetable Skewers

Slide chunks of red onion, pepper, garlic, and courgette onto a wooden skewer. Pop them onto the BBQ and roast until soft.

Filled Mushrooms

Take a number of meaty Portobello mushrooms, put them on their backs and drizzle on some olive oil. Next, smear on a tomato paste, fried onion, and bread crumbs. Roast on the bbq until the mushroom is soft.

One of the most authentically American classes of food is the humble barbecue. The tradition of slow-cooking meats and flavoring them with sauces is one that has been a constant in the United States ever since colonial days and continues to be so now.

The main attraction of American BBQs are always the meats, but did you know that there are also a ton of traditional side dishes which are served alongside them? Here are some of the favorites.

Hush Puppies

Cornmeal is combined with flour, eggs, salt, milk, water and seasonings and fried into delicious little balls in this classic Southern barbecue side dish. These are popular when flavored with onion and garlic, and many people enjoy dipping them into barbecue sauce.

Collared Greens

Collared greens are another common barbecue side dish that involves a sort of vegetable side dish made with a common American kale-like green. It’s stewed in chicken broth and also contains bacon and onions. Yum.

Cornbread

Corn reigns supreme once again as cornbread figures into the mix as a popular BBQ side dish. A sort of corn-meal-based bread that is slightly sweet and cut into small squares to serve, you’ll find this on American BBQ dishes all around the country topped with a dab of butter.

Korean barbecue is one of the most popular food trends that’s sweeping the world right now. The unique experience of grilling meat at your own table is something that people love to do, and the rich flavors of the delicious meat and sides that are served keep diners coming back for more.

Here are some tips for eating like a pro the next time you visit a Korean BBQ restaurant.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2xyBr1jOxO/?utm_source=ig_embed

Know When to Flip

It’s important to cook your meat properly if you want to enjoy it to the best of its potential. Undercooking meat can be dangerous while overcooking meat can rob it of its juiciness and flavor. Keep an eye on those meats!

Variety is the Spice of Life

Don’t just stick to one cut of meat or even one type of meat. Don’t be afraid to try different things! There’ll be some that you like more and some that you like less, but it’s worth giving everything a go.

Banchan is Your Friend

Banchan are the side dishes that are typically served along with the meats at Korean BBQ restaurants. Ranging from kimchi to pickled eggplant, it provides a nice, sharp contrast to the rich meat that you’ll be eating.

Pork Belly is the Star of the Show

I know that I told you to try different cuts of meat earlier, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have a favorite. Pork belly is the perfect combination of fat and flavor and there’s nothing that tastes quite as good on a Korean barbecue grill.
