One of the reasons why we sometimes have trouble falling asleep or experience insomnia could be the food and drinks we consume in the evening. Check out this short list of foods and drinks that can ruin our sleep so that you can try to avoid them if you have trouble sleeping.

Alcohol

Even though a glass of wine in the evening is likely to help you relax in the evening, research has shown that drinking alcohol can reduce sleep quality and cause insomnia.

High-Fat Foods

Foods that contain a lot of fat like cheese, fried food, butter, or even foods that contain healthy fats like fish or avocado, can sabotage our sleep.

Caffeine

We all know that caffeine affects our sleep which is why we tend to drink coffee when we need to stay awake. Caffeine, however, can be found not only in coffee but also in chocolate, green tea, or energy drinks, so it’s best to keep these foods to a minimum in the evening.

Sugar

Foods that are packed with sugar such as candy, cakes, smoothies, and other sugary drinks can also ruin our sleep, so it’s best to avoid eating them late at night.
