TikTok made us believe there’s nothing you can’t make inside an air fryer, but you should think twice before using it to prepare certain foods. Popcorn falls under that category, and here are a few reasons why you should be hesitant before preparing it inside an air fryer.

Mess & Damage

Making popcorn in an air fryer is technically possible, but is it really worth it? The tricky thing about popcorn is that its kernels are tiny and lightweight and they can cause damage to your air fryer. Your air fryer will be difficult to clean up and kernels might even get stuck inside the heating element, so it’s better to explore alternative preparation methods.

Time Consuming

Another downside of making air fryer popcorn is that this method tends to be pretty time-consuming. You’ll probably have to prep the corn in smaller batches, of about a quarter cup of kernels per session, and it will take forever until all the kernels are properly popped.

Uneven Popping

Uneven popping is another issue you might find yourself dealing with when using this kitchen tool. Air fryers don’t always provide even heat distribution, and this issue may lead to unpopped and burnt kernels that you’ll have to throw away.
