Corn on the cob is a quintessential summer staple, perfect for barbecues and picnics. While delicious on its own, a few creative twists can elevate this classic side dish into a standout favorite. Here are three tips to upgrade your corn-on-the-cob recipe.

Experiment with Flavored Butters

Butter is a traditional topping for corn on the cob, but you can take it up a notch by adding various flavors to your butter. Start by softening unsalted butter to room temperature and then mix in your choice of herbs and spices. Some popular combinations include garlic and herb butter, spicy chipotle butter, or sweet maple butter.

Grill for a Smoky Flavor

Instead of boiling your corn, try grilling it to add a delicious smoky flavor that you can’t achieve on the stovetop. Peel back the husks (but don’t remove them entirely) and brush the corn with olive oil and salt. Fold the husks back and place on a hot grill. 10 to 15 minutes total and you’re golden.

Add Toppings for Extra Flair

Once your corn is buttered and ready, take it over the top with additional toppings. This is where you can get creative and cater to various taste preferences. Try cheese and herbs, bacon bits, or chili and lime!
