3 Winter Candies You Can Easily Make at Home

Everyone knows that cookies are a staple of the holidays. But why not add something special to your festive kitchen with some delicious homemade candies? Here are three great ones to try.

Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces of white chocolate
  • 12 ounces of  dark chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Candy canes

Instructions:

  1. Melt the dark chocolate and spread it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Melt the white chocolate, add peppermint extract, and pour it over the dark chocolate.
  3. Sprinkle crushed candy canes and refrigerate.

Homemade Marshmallows

Ingredients:

  • 3 packets unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Bloom gelatin in cold water.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and salt.
  3. Heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the hot syrup over the gelatin, add vanilla, and beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Spread the mixture in a pan dusted with powdered sugar. 

Cinnamon Sugar Pecans

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 pound pecan halves
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Whisk egg white and water until frothy.
  2. Toss pecans in the egg white.
  3. Mix sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Toss pecans in the mixture.
  5. Spread on a baking sheet and bake at 250°F for 1 hour.
