Yesterday, the 5th of February, was the 11th celebration of Nutella Day, which was invented in 2007 by an American blogger, Sara Rosso. She loved Nutella so much that she thought it deserved a holiday.
Great idea, isn’t it?

On this yummy holiday, Nutella fans are coming together, making new sweets recipes, celebrating this holiday and sharing it all over the social media. On this day, pictures, videos, drawings, articles and recipes including Nutella can be found all over the web.

But let’s ask the question this way; Who needs a World Nutella Day to eat Nutella?
don’t we all love Nutella?

Nutella just goes with everything.
Have you ever tried something with Nutella and told yourself ‘this is disgusting’? We don’t think so. Okay – maybe not with fish or meat, but with any desserts, pastries, bread, and I could go on, endlessly. Chocolate and Hazelnut are the perfect combination and this is why we love Nutella so much.

Fact: did you know that Nutella production consumes 25% of the world’s hazelnut supply?

It is hard to always eat healthy. There are special occasions where you just can’t follow these healthy eating habits, such as during holidays and when traveling. And that’s okay, it’s all about finding a balance between the good and the not-so-good foods.

But for boosting your metabolism, there is nothing that will help more than exercising and building up muscle. More muscles means more fat-burning capabilities. So, in this case, as in most of the cases, working out goes hand in hand with healthy eating.

If you want to lose weight, or build up muscle, it is important that the calories you are eating, are quality calories. This means that the food you are eating must include protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and complex carbs.

There are some foods that experts recommend if you want to burn fat and boost your metabolism. Have a look at 10 of these:

1. Nuts – they have good fats and proteins. Great to eat as a pre-workout snack to burn more fat.

2. Eggs – high in protein which helps boost metabolism. Its fat and calories are being used for fuel.

3. Avocado – healthy fats, fiber and vitamins (particularly B6)

4. Berries – sweet but low in sugar, high in fiber and antioxidants, help burn fat

5. Grapes – high in fiber and water content

6. Cinnamon – powerful antioxidant boost the metabolism and help regulate blood sugar

7. Celery – very high in fiber and uses more energy to digest than it provides (negative calories)

8. Flaxseed – high in Omega 3 fatty acids

9. Dark Chocolate – the important part is the 70% + cacao, it pushes the body to burn fat

10. Apple Cider Vinegar – the acetic acid helps with blood sugar levels

We all rely on canned foods form time to time, especially when we do not have much time to prepare dinner, or lunch. But is that the correct way to grab a quick meal?

Canning is a method of conserving food in which the food has firstly been processed and then sealed in an airtight container. Tasty? Depends on who you ask, but healthy it is certainly not.

For examples vegetables, canned veggies are often stripped of fiber and any other nutrients and are usually loaded with sodium. If you are eating them, you are consuming a large amount of sugar, additives, sodium or flavorings that detract from the good nutrition, which make it harmful, without you even knowing about it.

If canned foods are your to-go, we would recommend you to go for frozen foods instead. They have no added sodium, and plus you can choose the portion you want to make and just keep the rest in the freezer.

We often go for canned foods as they are cheaper, shorter in preparation time and more convenient. Today you can literally find everything in cans, which may be appealing and always a good thing to store in your kitchen cabinet, but try not to make it a habit. Rather, go for the fresh and healthier version of these same foods.

The real question is, if I am eating a mix of fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins, am I eating healthy? Am I eating too much of it? Or maybe not enough? Is that even good for my health? Not all foods are created equal, even the healthy ones, and you might not get as many vitamins and nutrients you believe you are. In other words, there is still a chance you are making mistakes with your food choices without even realizing it. You might be unconsciously filling your body with extra sugar and sodium.

Nutritions experts have researched which are the best foods in every category. Have a look at these veggies, fruits, grains and proteins you should eat in order to stay fit and healthy.

Veggies
1. Dark Leafy Greens
2. Kale, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables
3. Beans

Fruits
1. Avocado
2. Berries
3. Frozen Fruits

Grains
1. Whole Grains
2. Ancient Grains (i.e Quinoa)
3. Oatmeal

Proteins
1. Fish
2. Chicken
3. Tofu
4. Nuts
5. Eggs

Others
1. Dairy Products: Greek Yoghurt
2. Cheese: Cottage Cheese
3. Fats: Virgin Olive Oil

Of course, you should not exaggerate in the quantity of these foods, but try not go to the opposite side either. Some people think that because they have had their daily fruits portion, they can now eat fast food for lunch, this is wrong. You should keep the balance and eat healthy on a daily basis.

Some people prefer sweet over savory, mostly eating sweet food and a lot of it. Why? Because sugar is addictive and when you start eating it, it is hard to stop. It adds a sweet and good taste to your food and drinks, but nowadays you can find plenty of alternatives that are healthier and tasty as well.

Sugar comes with a lot of different not so fun side-effects and if you are eating a lot of it, it is time to know them.

Photo by Vinicius Amano on Unsplash

You Want To Eat More
Just as mentioned above, this small little cookie may not curb your craving after all.

Your Brain Suffers
If you want to stay in peak mental shape, try sticking with savory foods.

Skin Ages Faster
Too much of sugar can hinder the repair of collagen, the protein that keeps skin looking plump.

Stored As Fat
The liver has a capacity to metabolise sugar and use it for energy, but only to an extent. If you exaggerate, the fructose that’s left over is converted into fat.

Photo by Igor Ovsyannykov on Unsplash

Affects Your Cells
Fructose accelerates the usual oxidation process in our cells. Organs can become damaged and the risk of health conditions rises.

Energy Up, Then Down
Sugar quickly causes a rise of glucose in the bloodstream, so you might feel extra energised, for a while. But this can rapidly change and leave you more tired and down later on.

And now, do you still crave for sugar?

Carrots are one of the most popular vegetables in the world! Whether they are eaten raw, cooked, boiled or in a juice, people from all over the world have already consumed them, and most of them, even often.

We do not know if you have seen them, but carrots can be found in different colors than just orange. They also exist in purple, yellow, red and white. The colors come from carotenoids, a form of antioxidant. One of these carotenoids is the beta carotene, a vitamin A that is responsible for the known carrot benefits.

It all starts with the question, is rice even healthy at first place? The answer is, not always. White rice for example has nothing to promote the health of your body. It includes refined carbohydrates that enter the bloodstream like an injection of sugar. This isn’t the case with brown rice, and this is why you should consider eating more brown rice than white rice.

Brown rice is full of vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber. Studies have shown that brown rice can reduce the risk of diabetes and heart problems. It has some other health benefits such as decreasing cholesterol levels, rich in manganese and is better and healthier for gluten-free diets.

The Making of White Rice
This process is very simple and explains why white rice is less healthy than brown rice. In order to get white rice, brown rice is being stripped of its nutrients and like this, it turns into white rice. As a result, it includes zero nutritional value.

1. Fish

3. Tofu
4. Nuts
5. Eggs

Others

These were the healthy fats. You also have some unhealthy fats (plenty of them), such as Bacon and Canola Oil and these should be kept away from your eating habits.
