Pumpkin season is upon us, and you will probably want to treat yourself with a satisfying slice of homemade pumpkin pie at one point. But if you want that slice to be as satisfying as it can be, you will need to avoid these common pumpkin pie mistakes.

Making Pumpkin Purée from Scratch

You might be tempted to take a fresh pumpkin and make pumpkin purée from scratch. However, this isn’t only a time-consuming process, but it also doesn’t guarantee the best results. Canned pumpkin purée is a better option as it is more consistent in flavor and baking properties.

Baking the Pie Crust and Filling at the Same Time

Filling for pumpkin pie packs a lot of moisture. If you end up baking the filling and the pie crust at the same time, there is a good chance that you end up with a soggy pie crust. Instead, do a blind bake of the pie crust and then add the filling.

Not Using Fresh Spice

You probably have loads of spices in your spice rack and think pumpkin pie is a great opportunity to use them. However, there is a good chance that some of those spices are stale and have lost their flavor over time. Do a quick grocery run and buy some fresh spices; your pumpkin pie will thank you for it.
