Melting chocolate to perfection is easier said than done, and we all make mistakes from time to time. If your melted chocolate turned out too thick, here are five proven methods that will help you thin it out and achieve the desired constancy.

Avoid Water

Adding water is probably the first thing that will pop into your mind when your chocolate is too thick, but this is a huge no-no because it will just turn your chocolate into a lumpy paste.

Milk or Cream

If you insist on adding liquids to your melted chocolate to make it thinner, milk or cream are a much better option than water and they’ll help you achieve a smoother texture.

Butter

Butter can fix your thick melted chocolate and adds richness to its flavor. Cocoa butter is even a better option than regular butter since it can help preserve the chocolate’s original taste and texture.

Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil is another obvious choice, but be cautious when using it. Just a few drops are all it takes to fix the texture of your chocolate, but make sure to add them gradually and mix them well.

Paramount Crystals

Baking pros also rely on another ingredient that you’re probably not aware of – paramount crystals. Made out of vegetable oils, they can come in handy when you’re dealing with a huge amount of melted chocolate that requires to be thinned out.

In our humble opinion, there are few things in life that can’t be improved with the addition of sprinkles. For major celebrations and casual baking alike, the color and crunch that sprinkles provide can make any sweet treat feel more festive. That said, store-bought sprinkles are often made with weird preservatives and artificial ingredients that take much of the fun out of funfetti, so we prefer to make our own. Here’s how:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Natural food coloring, store-bought or:
  • Beetroot powder for pink, turmeric for yellow, matcha for green, butterfly pea powder for blue
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, egg white, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until it forms a thick, smooth icing.
  2. Divide the icing into separate bowls for each color you’d like. If using liquid store-bought food coloring, add 1 drop at a time and mix until you achieve the desired color intensity. For powders, powders, add ⅛ tsp at a time.
  3. Prepare piping bags with small round tips. If you don’t have tips, you can snip a small hole in the corner of each bag.
  4. Fill each piping bag with a different colored icing.
  5. Line a tray with parchment paper. Hold the piping bag above the tray and squeeze small lines or dots onto the paper. Repeat with other colors.
  6. Allow the sprinkles to dry at room temperature for several hours or until firm to the touch.
  7. Once dry, gently break up the lines into bite-sized pieces.
  8. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
  9. Enjoy on cupcakes, cookies, or any dessert that needs a colorful touch!

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups M&M candies

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream softened butter with both sugars in a bowl until fluffy, then incorporate eggs one at a time, adding vanilla extract.
  3. Separately, mix flour, baking soda, and salt, then slowly blend with the wet ingredients. Fold in M&M candies evenly. For extra visual appeal, save some M&Ms to press on top of the cookies just before baking.
  4. Scoop dough onto baking sheets, spacing them out. Top with extra M&Ms.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers are soft. Keep a close eye on them. Remember, the secret to soft cookies is pulling them out of the oven just before they look done.
