There is hardly a better dessert for the fall than pumpkin pie. It is nostalgic, delicious, and incredibly satisfying. This is why it tends to be gone shortly after coming out of the oven, and there are hardly ever any leftovers. But in case you end up with a few extra slices, it is important to know how to store them.
Store the Pumpkin Pie in the Fridge
Pumpkin pie will be okay if you leave it at room temperature for a couple of hours, but anything past that might cause it to go bad or lose some of its properties. In order to keep it at its best, make sure to store it in the fridge.
Wrap the Pie in Plastic or Aluminum Foil
Before you store pumpkin pie in the fridge, let it completely cool down and then wrap it in plastic or aluminum foil. This will prevent drying out or picking up strange smells from the rest of the food inside the fridge.
Finish it Off in a Couple of Days
Pumpkin pie can be safe to eat when stored in the fridge for up to five days. However, at this point, it will become soggy and bland. To properly enjoy the leftover pumpkin pie, finish it off in a couple of days.
Freeze the Pie
If you are not planning to eat the rest of the pumpkin pie anytime soon, then freeze it. Slice it up once fully cooled and wrap up the individual slices in several layers of plastic and aluminum wrap. Pop it in the freezer, and it will remain perfectly fine to eat for a couple more months.
