A Frito Pie is a classic American dish that has a complicated history. Some people think it originates in Texas, others in New Mexico, but wherever it came from, it’s still a dish that is worth going back to even today.

A Frito pie is all that you love about chips and dip in one casserole! Perfect for family dinners, parties, and more.

Ingredients

For a classic Frito pie, you need:
ground beef
onions
pinto beans
cheese
enchilada sauce
Fritos or corn chips

If you want to make it a vegetarian dish, you can leave out the ground beef easily.

Recipe

  1. If you want to make the classic non-vegetarian style, first chop up an onion.
  2. Add it to a pan with some olive oil, and fry it together with the ground beef over medium to medium-high heat until the beef is brown.
  3. Add the mixture to a casserole dish at the bottom, followed by a layer of the beans, then the sauce, then grated cheese.
  4. Finally, top it with the chips and bake at 350 F for 20 minutes.
  5. Once it comes out of the oven, you can garnish it with green onions or chives if you want a little freshness.
