Turnip definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, if you like the taste, it can quickly become one of the most-used veggies in your kitchen. Turnips are highly versatile, pairing up great with various main dishes or starring in soups, side dishes, and salads.

As we all know, turnips are at their best in fall and winter, so now is the perfect time to stop by a grocery store and get some for our simple and tasty turnip salad. Here’s the super easy way to make it.

  • 3 medium-sized turnips
  • 2 scallions
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 teaspoons black cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt

  1. Peel the turnip. Cut it in the preferred shape, although we recommend lengthwise slices.
  2. Remove the green part of the scallion. Chop the white part in a way you would usually do when making a salad.
  3. Combine the turnip slices in a bowl alongside the chopped scallions, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Mix the ingredients together using your hands. Make sure you thoroughly rub the turnip slices against sugar, salt, and scallions, as it will make them tenderer.
  5. Add horseradish and black cumin and combine with the rest of the salad using a fork or a spoon.
  6. Serve on a plate or dig in straight from the bowl.
