Whether you’re simply making a sandwich or having a cookout, condiments are a necessary part of cooking. The downside to these delicious spreads and sauces is that they often are high in calories, salt, and sugar, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to give them up for good. By making condiments yourself, you can control what and how much of everything goes in, enduring that they will be healthier and definitely more delicious than store bought.

Mayonnaise

Mayo might seem like a difficult condiment to perfect, but that’s simply not the case! All you need to do is whisk or blend an egg yolk, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard and ½ teaspoon of salt together until the mixture is bright yellow. Then, gently add in olive oil while continuing to whisk or blend, and you’ll have amazing mayonnaise!

Tartar Sauce

It’s so sad to eat fried fish without tartar sauce, but buying it from the store can make fried fish even sadder. Instead, repeat the instruction from the mayo recipe above and simply add onions and dill pickles, and you’ve got yourself some gourmet tartar sauce.
