Indulge In Mexican Food with Isabel Orozco-Moore

With an Instagram tagline that reads “tacos, salsas, margaritas, tostadas and more”, you can expect to find quality Mexican food from food blogger and proud first generation Mexican-American, Isabel Orozco-Moore.

Based in Oklahoma City, OK, Orozco-Moore’s food blog, Isabel Eats, might be read as a love letter to Mexican food. Aside from recipes, her platform includes kitchen tips that aim at helping you become the ultimate Mexican home cook, with posts that answer burning questions like How to Chop Cilantro and What Is Chorizo?

In an interview with Our Whole Village Travel, Orozco-Moore explained that the secret to great Mexican food is using fresh ingredients that add flavor to dishes, “as opposed to putting melted cheese on everything like you would typically see in restaurants.”

Indeed, scrolling through her Instagram page (to date, Orozco-Moore has amassed some 35k fans), you can almost feel the flavors in your mouth.

According to the seasoned blogger, as she has no culinary background, and is pretty much self-taught, her blog started out as a way of documenting her family’s recipes and celebrating her cultural upbringing. “I grew up eating homemade Mexican food prepared by my Mom and Dad every day,” she recalled. “Pinto beans and corn and flour tortillas were everyday staples. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there was always a pot of beans on the stove!”

After moving away to college, and missing out on her favorite dishes, Orozco-Moore found herself craving those childhood favorites. “I started paying attention to the ingredients my parents were using in the kitchen and how they made certain Mexican dishes,” she explains on her website, relaying her journey to becoming a now successful food blogger. “I started tasting all the things they made that I never dared to try as a kid, and then I began experimenting and recreating those recipes on my own.”

Her experimentations resulted in both old and new recipes: a mix of all your favorite authentic Mexican recipes as well as Mexican-inspired dishes with a twist. You’d want to check her out.
