Most people who like to cook know the importance of a good knife. You can’t julienne onions or create intricate garnishes without a good sharp knife. Thus, we have compiled a list of the three knives every amateur or pro cook needs in their kitchen.

The Chef’s Knife

This is the most important kitchen knife that any budding chef has. It tends to be eight to ten inches in length and has a razor-sharp edge. A knife like this is used to prepare multiple ingredients, from chopping onions to carefully filleting a fish.

The Paring Knife

A paring knife is essentially a miniature version of a chef’s knife. The blade will be just under four inches in length, and it’s used to prepare small ingredients. If you need to carefully slice garlic or peel an apple, then this is the knife you would select. The blade needs to be kept sharp, so don’t forget to sharpen it along with your other knives.

The Bread Knife

A bread knife is very different from a chef’s knife and a paring knife because it has a serrated edge. While the knife is often used to slice bread, it can also be used for slicing meat and many other tasks.
