Trail mix is one of our favorite snack foods, providing an energy boost when we need it most. It offers a selection of different savory snacks that are blended together and seasoned to form a tasty mid-day treat. Cajun spice is a great addition to any trail mix, and here is a recipe that you can use to make it at home!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pretzel sticks
  • ½ cup roasted almonds
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ½ cup toasted sunflower seeds
  • ¼ cup corn nuts
  • ½ tablespoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

Start off by measuring all of your “base” ingredients (non-spices) and putting them in a large plastic bag. If any of the nuts you have are raw, be sure to toast them in the oven at 400 F for about 10 minutes first.

Next, go ahead and add the paprika, cayenne pepper, and sea salt which will give your trail mix its unmistakable Cajun twist. Seal the bag tightly, and shake vigorously but not hard enough to break up all of the ingredients.

Open the bag and taste the overall mixture to ensure that you don’t want more salt, pepper, or paprika. All can be added to make an even zestier and spicier version.

Store in the same plastic bag or in a sealable jar and enjoy!
