Soy sauce is a beautiful ingredient that is made from fermented soy beans, which gives it a salty and umami packed flavor. Although you might be used to simply putting it straight on sushi, there are some other great ways to use it to make other sauces. If you need to jazz up your food but you’ve run out of ideas, use these sauce recipes to bring your food back to life.

Orange Sauce

Whether you want to smother this on chicken or a simple stir fry, this orange sauce is bright, full of body, and perfect for any dish. Start out by adding 1 1/2 tablespoons of soy sauce with the same amount of water. Then, add in 4 tablespoons of sugar, 4 tablespoons of white vinegar, and the zest of a whole orange. Mix that together and you’re done!

Ginger Sauce

For a slightly spicy but really tangy sauce, make this ginger sauce. You can use it for anything but works especially good with seafood and as a dipping sauce for dumplings. Start by finely dicing 2 green onions, and then mince or use a microplane to grate ginger so it amounts to 2 teaspoons. Mix them both with 1/2 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup of vinegar, and tablespoons of brown sugar. Couldn’t be more simple!
