Oktoberfest is in full swing throughout the month of October. This annual German beer-based holiday traditionally combines Marzen beer, a staple favorite, with a party-like atmosphere and all kinds of German food to boot.

While it might be hard for us to travel to Munich for the festivities, especially this year, it’s easy to buy German beer and make the appropriate foods at home. Here are three that you should put on your menu!

Sauerkraut

Sauerkraut, a German favorite which consists of seasoned fermented cabbage, is a must-have for any Oktoberfest celebration. While its strong taste can be an acquired love, there’s nothing more authentic than this.

Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are a staple in German homes and at Oktoberfest celebrations, meaning that you should definitely take the time to whip some up for your home celebration. Served with gravy, melted cheese, or simply plain, it’s hard to go wrong here!

Bratwurst

Bratwurst is a traditional German sausage which is traditionally made with pork. Usually grilled, this sausage is typically served either on a bun or by itself and topped with the mustard of your choosing. Yum!
