Elevate your burger game with this mouthwatering recipe for smashed burgers at home. With just a few simple ingredients and easy-to-follow steps, you’ll be enjoying restaurant-quality burgers in the comfort of your own kitchen in no time. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Burger buns
  • Cheese slices (optional)
  • Burger toppings of your choice (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.)
  • Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Divide the ground beef into equal-sized portions, about 100g each, and shape them into loose balls. Season each ball generously with salt and pepper. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Make sure the surface is well-oiled to prevent sticking.
  2. Once the skillet is hot, place the seasoned beef balls onto the skillet, leaving enough space between each one. Use a sturdy spatula or burger press to firmly smash each ball down into a thin patty. Press down firmly for about 10-15 seconds to achieve a nice sear.
  3. Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes on one side, until they develop a deep brown crust. Avoid moving or flipping them too soon to allow the crust to form.
  4. After the first side is cooked, flip the patties and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes on the other side. If adding cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
  5. While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the skillet or griddle until golden brown. Once the patties are cooked to your desired level of doneness and the cheese is melted, assemble your burgers by placing each patty on a toasted bun and adding your favorite toppings and condiments.
