The famous Posh Spice, also known as Victoria Beckham, proved to the world that she had the right nickname all along. Most of the things she does are fancy, from the way she dresses to the rest of her lifestyle. Her eating habits, on the other hand, are surprisingly simple.

It’s easy to imagine Mrs. Beckham in the most expensive London restaurants trying out the latest hit meals, but the truth is that she actually prefers the simplest foods you can imagine. As she mentioned on the River Café’s Table 4 podcast, she’s “a restaurant’s worst nightmare because she was happy with just a slice of bread with a sprinkling of the seasoning,” Daily Mail reports.

Her go-to order is steamed vegetables and balsamic vinegar. She avoids butter, oils, and sauces, but enjoys a carb-filled meal once in a while. “This is where I sound even more boring in the food department,” she says. “I like whole-grain toast with salt on it. It’s that carbohydrate that makes you feel comforted, and I love salt.” And for dessert? Nothing for her.

As Beckham once told The Guardian, she’s happiest when she’s disciplined in the way she works out and eats. If it works for her, that’s amazing!

Food hacks are basically no-brainers. They’re a great way to save time, effort, and energy in the kitchen and by their nature they’re easy to do. So here’s a list of food hacks that you’ll try for the first time and then find yourself asking, “Where have you been all my life?”. We don’t know how we survived before we found them, either.

  • To make your bananas last longer, wrap their ends in plastic wrap, which will block ethylene gases from releasing out of the stem.
  • To prevent your brown sugar from getting hard in the container, store it with orange peels, an apple slice, or a few marshmallows.
  • To make it easier to grate, freeze your ginger and garlic before taking it to the grater.
  • To chill wine without watering it down, add frozen grapes to a glass instead of ice cubes.
  • Alternatively, you can chill wine quickly by wrapping it in a wet paper towel or dish towel and freezing it for ten minutes.
  • Microwave a lemon for 15 seconds before juicing it to get the most juice out of it possible.
  • If you can’t get a jar open, try adding a rubber band around the lid to add more traction.

Buying groceries is becoming more and more expensive and, unfortunately, most of these groceries end up as food waste. Even though we’re always finding ways to save some money on grocery shopping, there are some foods that are definitely worth the price. Check out this short list of expensive food you should splurge on.

Locally Grown Vegetables

Shopping at a local farmers markets has many advantages, even though sometimes it can be a bit more expensive. Locally grown fruits and veggies are definitely healthier and fresher that the produce you can buy at the supermarket, so it’s definitely worth the money.

Dark Chocolate

Some dark chocolate brands can be very expensive but they’re definitely worth every penny. These pricey dark chocolates are healthier because they’re higher in cocoa and are made with quality ingredients.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The main difference between extra virgin and regular olive oil is the fact that extra virgin olive oil is less processed. This means that these brands are more nutritious and worth the splurge.

Spices

Some spices such as vanilla, cardamom or saffron can be very expensive but they’re definitely worth the money. Even though they’re pricey, these spices have a long shelf life, they’re super healthy and will definitely elevate your meals.

A lot of people associate eating healthy with eating less. And, yes, portion control is very important. But if you’re just the type of person who likes to eat a lot, that doesn’t mean that things are absolutely hopeless for you. In fact, there are some foods that are high in volume – meaning you can eat a lot of them – while being relatively low in calories. Include these ingredients in your meals and snacks and you’re likely to be a pretty happy camper with lots on your plate.

Vegetables

There are lots of reasons to eat your veggies. But in addition to being packed full of nutrients, vegetables also tend to be pretty bulky while also having a pretty low number of calories. So if you can include things like broccoli, spinach, asparagus, mushrooms, carrots, and zucchini into every meal, you’ll have lots and lots of food to chew.

Oatmeal

One of the best breakfast foods you can eat if you’re a volume person is oatmeal. Because it soaks up so much water or liquid in the cooking process, it ends up being pretty voluminous while still maintaining a relatively low calorie count for being a carb. Plus, it’s a great source of fiber and has more protein and healthy fats than a lot of other grains.

Donating food to the less fortunate is always a good idea, but there are ways to do it wrong. If you want to truly help, you need to know a few rules, and the most important ones have to do with which foods not to donate (as it will likely just end up in the trash and not help anyone).

Dented Cans

Donating canned goods is typically a good idea as they don’t require special storing conditions and have a long shelf life, but if the cans are in any way damaged, refrain from donating them. Don’t donate the cans that have dents, rust, or some other kinds of damage on them, because the food inside may be spoiled.

Fresh Produce and Meat

You may have some leftover produce and meat that you’d like to donate, but that’s really not a good idea. Many facilities don’t have enough refrigerators and freezers to keep such foods cold so it will spoil in no time.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CMuYR7Vlj6i/

Homemade Meals

Although you have the best intentions, donating homemade meals will be rejected by most food banks. They aren’t allowed to accept food that doesn’t have proper packaging and will have to throw out the food you made.

Food is the necessary fuel we need to survive, but it can be so much more than that. We often connect it to emotions—some foods make us happy while others cause guilt. If you’re tired of feeling guilty and ashamed around certain foods and want to stop them from causing you negative emotions, here are some tips.

Notice Your “Shoulds”

When you tell yourself you should or shouldn’t eat something and then do the opposite, guilt will automatically follow. Think about why you think you should or shouldn’t eat certain foods and question the sources of your beliefs. Learn how to listen to your body’s needs.

Eat Mindfully

Many people experience guilt after eating a bunch of snacks and empty calories as they watch TV in the evenings. If that’s the case with you, mindful eating might be the right approach. Avoid mindless snacking whenever possible and set aside time to enjoy your food without screens.

Be Gentle with Yourself

Many of us tend to be too harsh with ourselves. Try tuning your inner monolog to mimic the way you’d talk to a child or a dear friend. Don’t guilt yourself into eating or not eating something and don’t tell yourself you’re a bad person just because you didn’t eat enough vegetables or you had your favorite guilty pleasure food for dinner.

When it comes to something like cooking, it helps to have some things memorized like how many teaspoons are in a tablespoon, for example. In the same vein, it’ll also be a huge help to know these three food ratios. They take the guesswork out of cooking.

Vinaigrette

Not enough people make their own salad dressing. That may be because they don’t know just how easy it can be to whip up a truly delicious vinaigrette. All you need is three parts oil to one part vinegar. No matter what oil or vinegar you use, it’ll turn out great every time.

Simple Syrup

This liquid sweetener that can be used in things like lemonade, cocktails, and baking, is incredibly easy to make on your own. You just need to combine two (or three if you have a sweet tooth) parts of sugar with one part of water. Boil, cool, and voila!

Pancakes

Why use pancake mix when you can whip up your own pancake batter in a jiffy as long as you’ve got this ratio? It’s just two parts flour, two parts liquid, one egg, and half part fat. For the fat, you can use butter or oil interchangeably, and you can always add some vanilla, sugar, and/or baking powder to take it to the next level.

TikTok has been our main source of inspiration lately and food videos are among the most popular ones on the platform. Now that we spend most of our time at home and cook our own food, discovering new tips and hacks can make the process easier and more fun. Here are three of the latest TikTok food trends that you can try this year.

Egg Sandwich

This is not your ordinary sandwich where eggs are simply one of the toppings. It’s made by pouring some scrambled eggs in the pan, letting one side cook, then adding two pieces of bread that stick to the eggs. Flip everything and tuck the extra egg content inside, then add your favorite sandwich ingredients and enjoy.

Oreo Mug Cake

Did you know that you can make a quick and easy mug cake with only two ingredients—Oreo cookies and milk? All you need is a microwave and if you want it to be fluffy, a little bit of baking powder.

Feta Pasta

You’ve probably heard of feta pasta already and perhaps even tried making it. This trending dish combines pasta, feta cheese, and cherry tomatoes for the ultimate pasta experience that you shouldn’t miss!

2020 and 2021 sure have been tough years for foodies like us that often plan their trips around visiting places where the food is good. While the current global health situation makes it difficult for us to travel outside of borders, there are some things that you can do at home to “travel” with your tastebuds.

Choosing the Country

One trend that people are giving a shot this year is choosing a country, choosing an emblematic dish from that country, and preparing it at home using authentic ingredients and the authentic techniques used to make the dish.

Whether it’s choosing countries that you have always wanted to visit, selecting countries that are the home to a dish that you particularly love, or randomly spinning a wheel to choose a country, there are so many ways that this can be done.

Research and Set The Mood

Once you have settled on a country and a dish, do research online in order to ensure that you know how to prepare the dish properly. Watch YouTube videos of natives of your chosen country making the dish, read recipes, and learn more about the ingredients that you will have to use to make it.

Once you have prepared your international dish of the day, choose a typical drink from that country, play some regional music, and call it a night and pretend that you’re on a trip!

Enjoy your “travels!”
