The post The Real Reason Why Brits Started Putting Milk in Their Tea appeared first on Cooking 4 All.
]]>Contrary to the popular belief, people didn’t start putting milk in tea to make it taste better. Sure, many agree that black tea with some milk is delicious, but there was a whole other reason why this trend first started. Back in the 18th century, tea was very popular and very expensive. The rich people would drink it from special china cups but those who couldn’t afford them faced one problem. Their regular cups would break from the hot tea, so they started pouring some milk first before adding tea. The result turned out to be delicious and the tradition survived throughout centuries.
Tea was so expensive that many families used more milk with just a little bit of tea. Those who could afford tea did the opposite, and that’s probably why more tea and less milk is the combination that stuck. The truth is, you can use any amount of tea and milk you want, it’s totally subjective.

]]>While you can buy the ingredients for chocolate milk at the store, a homemade version of this drink always ends up tasting way better than the store-bought stuff. Make this recipe for your kids, and you’ll see how much they love it!
Start off by pouring the liter of whole milk into your blender. Be sure that the milk is cold, as it could end up spoiling if you leave it out too long during the process of making your chocolate milk.
Next, go ahead and add the rest of the ingredients into the blender along with the milk. Stir as you go with a large spoon in order to ensure that big chunks of solid additions do not form.
After this, go ahead and turn on your blender to medium-high and let the ingredients get mixed around for about 30 seconds. Check to be sure that nothing has settled at the bottom, and if it has, loosen it up with your spoon and then blend a few additional seconds.
Place the milk into a glass jar and refrigerate. Serve within a week to ensure that it is fresh. Enjoy!

But while many people assume that not having a milk frother at home prevents them from frothing milk, that actually isn’t true. There is a fool-proof way to do it as long as you have a saucepan, a jar with a tight lid, and a thermometer!
Step one: Place the amount of milk that you need for your drink and heat in a saucepan to the temperature that you need it to be for your drink. Use a thermometer to determine how hot the milk is.
Step two: Once it reaches the required temperature, pour the milk into a glass jar, and seal the lid tightly. Shake vigorously for 45 to 60 seconds or until the milk has expanded in size and small bubbles have formed. Add to the coffee, and enjoy!

]]>When enjoying milk with cereal or on its own, this is a perfectly acceptable and understandable decision! However, there are a couple of situations in which it is definitely best to opt for the full-fat, whole version of the beverage. Let’s take a look.
Milk is a common ingredient in all kinds of baking recipes, from cakes to muffins. In these applications, milk is used as a moistening and fattening agent, meaning that you definitely want to opt for whole milk. Skim milk doesn’t add the fat that recipes need, and your cake might end up crumbly and dry if you use a reduced-fat version.
Coffee drinks that contain milk, such as cafe au lait and lattes, are best made with whole milk. Why? If the fat content of the milk isn’t sufficient, the emulsion and foaming process of the milk won’t happen adequately, altering the flavor and the texture of the drink.

Think of ice cream flavors; anything that can be turned into ice cream can likely be turned into whipped milk drink, so be creative. Just make sure to whisk it enough to create the foamy deliciousness that makes this drink so famous.

]]>Action on Sugar, a charity based at Queen Mary University London, wanted to see how much sugar there is in chain coffee shops’ hot chocolates and lattes, and the results they got were even worse than anticipated.
When you’re ordering a vegan version of delicious latte or hot chocolate, there’s no way to know how much sugar there is in the non-dairy milk they use. Due to the lack of labeling, these hot beverages are often so high in calories and sugar that probably nobody would order them if they knew.
The option with the highest amount of sugar and the most calories is Starbucks’ venti Signature Caramel Hot Chocolate with whipped cream, made with oat milk. The drink contains 93.8 grams of sugar and 758 calories, which is basically half of your total daily needs in just one drink that can’t really replace a meal. The amount of sugar in it is way more than what you need in a day!
When it comes to lattes, the highest sugar and calorie content was found in Starbucks venti Gingerbread Latte with oat milk — 523 calories and 14 teaspoons of sugar.
The other chains weren’t much better; pretty much all the beverages tested had a whopping amount of sugar in them, mostly because of the unknown amount of sugar in the dairy-free milks used to make them.

]]>Invented back in 1990 by Rickard Ostre, Oatly is the perfect solution for people who suffer from lactose intolerance and want to enjoy the same health benefits as regular thick milk.
Oatly is made from Swedish oats, uniquely. Yes, this make Swedish oats very special. They grow strong and tall in the Nordic climate, which is a mix of long sunny days with a short period of intense rain.
Ostre’s idea to come up with Oatly was simply to find a way to make a nutritious liquid product for people who just don’t like cow’s milk or can’t use it. The way they produce this drink is totally different and this is what makes them unique. Back then, people thought they were crazy, but today it has slowly become a new trend. Oatly is straightly produced from oats instead of first feeding the cows with oats and letting the cow process it into milk.

But how do we get from Cockroach to Milk?
Barbara Stay, a professor at the University of Lowa, did a research and could conclude that a Pacific beetle cockroach consumes a liquid from the mother during development. This liquid turns into little crystals inside the intestines, that comes out in broods sacs when giving birth.
